Rising Stars: Meet Mallory Painter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Painter.

Hi Mallory, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started decorating cookies about 7 years ago for family and friends. I lived in Chicago at the time and brought cookies home for everything! Once we moved home to Ohio, my family and friends encouraged me to begin selling my cookies. After we built our home in 2019, I finally had my own kitchen to work from, and around Thanksgiving that year I started The Painter’s Dozen.

When I look at the progress I have made in those 3.5 years I am honored to know how many people have chosen my cookies to help them celebrate birthdays, retirements, graduations, health, celebrations of life, etc.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The main struggle for me has been balancing my home and business. I have three young children, and they, along with my husband, are my first priority. I have been so fortunate to be creating and baking on my own terms. That being said, whenever I have begun to feel a burnout, or I start to lose some of the joy that baking brings me, I take a break.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Custom-decorated sugar cookies are my specialty. I love to work with a client to hear their ideas, inspiration, and hopes for their celebration. I have spent years to ensure my cookies and icing have a soft bite and are as delicious as they are pretty. They not only provide my customers with dessert but with decorations for their event! I often hear that many people don’t enjoy decorated sugar cookies until they have tasted mine. What sets me apart from others is that my cookies taste as good as they look!

What are your plans for the future?
I was fortunate enough to be offered a space through this year, in the Broadway Ariel Hotel in Lorain, and worked alongside Katie Hogan (Bleu + Brie co.) to be able to bring in several other small business to create a little gift shop and a place to offer classes.

My plans are to offer more decorating classes to share my passion with others. No huge changes for me anytime soon, as my family is still so young, and I love the flexibility that my business provides.
