Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Jancewicz.
Hi Chelsea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Hi there! My name is Chelsea and I have had a winding road leading me to the creation of Table for 2. My background is in healthcare, specifically occupational therapy. I worked with babies, children, and young adults with varying physical, emotional, and sensory needs. I have always loved art, creating things, and tinkering around with different tools. As a means to de-stress, I would often redecorate my house and find free or inexpensive pieces of furniture and repair or refinish them. Once a co-worker found out I had this skill, she paid me to refinish her inherited antique dressers. From there, I realized I could make a living doing this. My life partner and now business partner joined forces with me, and the business grew and grew leading us to our first brick-and-mortar location in the antiques district of Cleveland on Lorain Ave. We sell antique, vintage, retro, and secondhand furniture and home decor and continue to offer custom restoration on a small scale.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been full of twists, turns, ups, and downs. I think life truly is a journey and it is important to try to be where your feet are and enjoy the joy, fear, tears, laughs, and everything in between. Of course, there are so many obstacles down the path of entrepreneurship, but the hardest struggle to overcome was my own mental block of feeling scared to take the leap into going all in on our business. Learning to look within myself for answers and trust in myself is the most valuable tool I have in my arsenal.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Table for 2 is a curated vintage furniture and home decor store with modern handmade accents. We specialize in furniture restoration and host monthly events in our shop – our next two events will be a pop-up with Grounded Woodworks on March 12th and sound bath with Sacred Rising Yoga on March 25th. We believe in the motto, “repair, don’t replace” and have a goal of preventing furniture and home decor from entering the landfills. One person’s trash is definitely another person’s most treasured find in our world. We offer custom restoration on a small scale currently. Our shop is located at 4740 Lorain Ave. in Cleveland, OH.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Covid-19 certainly taught us a lot about how precious and short life on Earth can be. With so many changes beyond our control, we learned to value what we can control and to lean into our talents and passions. The pandemic definitely proved to us that we want to be spending our time doing things we care about and share that with others. During the pandemic, I realized that my career in healthcare was not sustainable for my well-being and that it was time to explore other ventures in my life and career.
