Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Woodruff.
Hi Bethany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started my photography journey when I was young. I grew up on a farm and I was always taking pictures of the animals and landscapes. I continued to grow with photographing seniors and weddings. I got married and had children. I have 6 children of my own. Once I had my first child, I started really focusing on maternity, newborns, children, and families. I am so inspired by the strength woman have and it is my goal to make them feel that when they look back on their journey. I want every family to have heirlooms to pass on to their future generations. The saying that the days take forever, but the years fly by. I never understood that until I had my own kids.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth ride. It takes lots of practice, patience, and education. I thought I knew everything there is to know about cameras and equipment, how to manage a business, but that obviously ended up not being true. I had to invest in education to learn about the techniques and the business side of it. I had to fail a few times to figure things out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in studio fine art portraits of expecting mothers and newborns. I also specialize in outdoor children and families. I am known for the use of color in my in-studio portraits and movement in my portraits. I like to capture energy and freeze it in time. I do not like stale images. I am most proud of my ability to give families something that can hold and share with their families. We are losing the importance of prints. If we do not print the art, in a few generations, there will not be any tangible photographs.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The willingness to give clients the experience they will never forget. The moment that is captured in time that they will never have back again.
