Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Boggs.
Hi Ethan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve wanted to be a musician for some time now. Back in early 2018, I envisioned that I was nothing more than a bass player. I wanted to be the guy playing bass in a big rock band off to the side, going unnoticed. In early 2019 I created the name Gosinicc for myself. It was just a word that I made up with no real meaning to use as a username for an online persona. At the time I was really big into the band Gorillaz. I was very active in the fan community, making fan art under the name Gosinicc. I eventually stumbled across a fan project titled Five Point Five. FPF was a Gorillaz fan album created by a group of musicians all over the world that came together to create an album in the style of Gorillaz. This project really intrigued me at the time, and eventually, I joined to be the bass player of sorts. Being in this band, I slowly learned how to compose music. The album needed more tracks to fill space, and with help, I went on to create my first ever song, thus Gosinicc was truly born. I went on to continue being part of multiple fan projects, providing music. It was within this time I grew as an artist and started to evolve from that kid who wanted to be a bass player to something more. I eventually had a falling out with the projects I was part of and found myself growing tired of not having creative control. In 2020, right before the lockdowns, I began production on the first “solo” Gosinicc project, my debut album Save Rock and Roll. Throughout 2020 and 2021, I feel I really found my place as a musician. Between the message I found myself trying to convey and the sound of the tracks I was producing, Gosinicc was really growing into something amazing. For nearly 4 years, I was running pretty much as a one-man show. Though I do think of it as my project, I knew that I wanted to start interpreting other creative minds into it. I had spent almost the entirety of 2019-2021 looking for ways to perform live shows. It was kind of hard when it was just me and a bass guitar. After years of trying on and off to form a live band, I eventually struck gold in mid-2022 when I found my live drummer Toni Devoe. I found Toni through mutuals and eventually struck up a conversation about them joining Gosinicc. Within weeks of talking to Toni for the first time, Gosinicc had formed a full live band. It was through Toni that I found Nicc (our live bassist) and Hank (our live guitarist). My good friend Triggy would also go on to join the band as a guitarist. As of right now, Gosinicc has evolved majorly from where it started. We have played multiple live shows, and I am currently working on the next album.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I honestly can’t complain too much. For someone who didn’t have too many goals set out from the get-go, I’d say Gosinicc has been very blessed thus far. Being a small musician is always going to have its struggles, but as of right now, I am grateful for where I’ve gone so far.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do like to label myself as a composer. I feel that I was put on this planet to make some form of art. I create music under Gosinicc because I feel I have a message to convey. I am very moved by music and growing up in this generation, I’m tired of the mainstream. I myself have never been a “normal” person, and I’m tired of the never-ending stream of false idols. There are thousands, if not millions of great young musicians out there, but their messages always go unheard because they are constantly drowned out by corporate media. I want to grow as a musician, but not for the reason most do. I don’t care about fame or fortune. I want to let the world know that I have a voice and help others through music the same way it has helped me.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I can’t say that I do really. If I’m being honest, I’m still learning that myself. I try to be as genuine as possible while promoting my work. I feel if you connect to somebody, it can go a long way.
