Today we’d like to introduce you to Virgil Miller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our dad started our company 50 years ago. He learned the building skills from his father who was Amish and he passed those skills along to us, his sons. We focus on residential construction with about 50% being new home builds and 50% remodeling/additions. We believe in treating our customers as we would want to be treated and in being honest and upright in all our business dealings.
There are 6 boys and 2 girls in our family. Currently, 4 of us brothers own and operate the business. One of our sisters works for us in interior design, so we are a family business. There are 45 grandchildren in the extended Miller family and the grandsons are already starting to work for our company through the summer months. There is a possibility that this company will see 3rd generation ownership.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our largest obstacle has been taking the company from one owner (Dad) to multiple owners and growing the business through implementing systems and processes.

I do the drafting/design work here, and I most enjoy a remodel and addition projects. I enjoy thoroughly dissecting an existing home to understand how it has been built and how we can best add an addition and remodel the existing structure to meet the needs of our clients and at the same time complement the existing home.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, the more planning ahead that we can do with all our projects and ordering products and materials ahead of time, the fewer interruptions we will have throughout the project. Also, in the beginning, we were forced to do more things remotely, meetings with clients, plan reviews, etc and we have become better at utilizing that technology which is a good thing.
