Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Punches.
Hi Carrie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve always had a passion for serving others. I knew from early on that I wanted to help people when I grew up. I am a Registered Nurse by trade, but while on maternity leave in 2021, I found Alison Prince online. Her story inspired me, and I wanted to create my own business where I could serve others. I still love being a nurse, but I felt down in my heart that I was called to do more.
Wanting to one day have time freedom and the ability to be there for my family, I leaped and started a business. I founded Carrie’s Counter, an online boutique focusing on eco-friendly products. Learning to be a business owner was such a massive growth for me. I can’t say it was easy but it has been worth it.
In the summer of 2022, I decided to pivot into a nursing entrepreneur role and created Nurse Educator Training. This pivot allowed me to serve other RNs and continue pursuing my dreams of being a business owner. This transition filled my cup with joy. I love what I get to do. I get to serve other RNs who are or want to be where I was years ago.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey has not been a smooth road. Although, without the bumps along the way, I would not be where I am today. This road has brought me clarity and a new sense of worth. I think part of being an entrepreneur is that there are always ideas for a business, a product to sell, or a service to offer.
One of my biggest struggles was narrowing down who I wanted to help serve. I’ve learned to be acceptant of the fact that not everyone is your ideal customer. Before my business, I rarely used any social media platform outside of Facebook. I didn’t know how to make reels or even create engaging posts.
Another example of a struggle was learning how to ship items. I never went to the post office, now I’m on a first-name basis with the postal workers because of all the packages I ship out. I also have had to get out of my comfort zone and learn to work with manufacturers, keep track of taxes and expenses, marketing, customer service, etc. I do it all currently, which I would have never pictured myself doing 10 years ago.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the owner & founder of Nurse Educator Training. I specialize in helping Registered Nurses who are new to teaching in nursing academics, teach their first nursing clinical with ease and confidence. I do this by providing an online course “Nursing Clinical Instructor Training”.
This course is self-paced and provides resources and education to help you start your journey as a nursing clinical instructor. I also provide 1:1 coaching sessions. I have over a decade of nursing experience from a bedside practitioner to an educator in both acute care and academic settings. I am most proud of the Nurse I am today. I pour my heart into my work and strive to make a difference in the lives of others.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as living a life I’m proud of, loving what I do and how I do it. I choose to be happy with what life gives me and find the positive in each day. I strive for time freedom and being able to put my family first.
