Today we’d like to introduce you to Barry Hixon. Them and their team share their story with us below:
The desire to help has always been there for both Danielle and me. Combined we have and continue to volunteer to assist in such areas as education, veterans issues, domestic violence, homelessness, addictions, voting, and even civil rights actions. Studies and serving in these capacities have led Danielle Pierre Hixon, M.P.H., B.S. and Barry L. Hixon, Jr. M.T.S., B.S., A.A.B. to further our studies in the field of ministry, trauma recovery, and health education to assist the growing needs of the people that we encounter.
Psalms & HIM Ministry is born of the needs of the people to see the song within them based on Psalms 150. People may differ in their taste in music but not their love of music. Today with concerts, workshops, and forums that are geared to provoke reflection we have seen many come to Christ or an understanding that three words are powerful for the soul: “I need help”. Our partnerships with other local non-profit agencies, education systems, small and large businesses, as well as healthcare professionals in the community have helped many to find solutions within the confines of a safe place.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge has been juggling our personal lives alongside this calling from God as we pursue our doctorates while working full-time. Psalms & HIM is a name born of faith, so it has been difficult for many to see that we are not a ministry that only serves people of faith. Our love for others is grounded in God but we believe, like Christ, people must make a personal decisions.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Psalms and HIM Ministry seeks to present a three-fold approach to spiritual, mental, and physical wellness through a faith-based practice. As an African American business offering Christian and Gospel Concerts, Educational and Entrepreneurial Workshops, in addition to, Evangelical Speakers the ministry will seek to create worship experiences that call for a tri-fold change of life.
We believe that by addressing real-life experiences with worship and tested therapy Psalms And HIM answers the question of what to do alongside prayer and praising God. Our brand is an illustration that science does not counter worship, it supports it. Psalms And HIM promotes an authentic “you” that comes only through self-awareness, perspective, and balance that people can gain the confidence to address past, present, and/or present life events.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
We believe “Truth” defines success. Truth finds its meaning in the personal understanding of themselves and their relationship with others in this world.
