Daily Inspiration: Meet Chawis Saelim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chawis Saelim.

Hi Chawis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started off as a kid who loved to illustrate and strived for something different that I had never done before; that’s why I started doing Fashion Design. I didn’t know how to sew before entering the fashion major; I strove and practiced to get where I am now today. Currently, I am a fashion designer whose desire is to create clothes that don’t follow the trends or the market; I strive to create something to exist as a creation that can live on a body or as a display piece.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not a smooth road at all. At some point, after much creation and thinking about making something, it can burn me out sometimes, and it was very tough. But quality time and a passion to create, with the support of a group of light-minded colleagues, are what got me through the tough times in fashion.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fashion designer who aims to create beautiful clothes that need pages of explanation of what beauty is. I specialize in classic tailoring and couture techniques. I am able to create collections and get to share it with the peoples, my goal is to inspired others like how I was inspired by the past designer that inspired me. I want to embrace the imperfections in clothes: the faults, flaws, and imperfections. That attracts me.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
To not lose myself and not be swayed by something that is not me. I have to stay true to myself and enjoy the process of creation.
