Inspiring Conversations with Pastor Deante Lavender of The Remedy Church

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pastor Deante Lavender.

Hi Pastor Deante, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My wife and I started The Remedy Church on Sunday, January 3, 2021 after serving our home church for about 15 years. We started The Remedy Church i the middle of the covid pandemic and we felt every bit of the pressure. We took a chance by renting a 40,000 square foot building, believing that we were going to have an open church in January 2021. Due to covid, we were forced to start an online ministry, though we had the overhead and upkeep of our leased space. God blessed it and through online support we were able to thrive nearly 3 months online and we opened to the public Sunday, March 21, 2021.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was as smooth as sandpaper! We aren’t Akron natives. We started a church. We had high overhead and not much support.

One of the largest struggles that we still deal with is people’s lack of trust for church and religious institutions. Historically churches have let people down and the hurt they experienced in one place, they apply to churches and religious organizations that they have no experience with at all.

How do you think about luck?
This is a hard question for a Pastor, because we don’t believe in luck. I believe that God has ordered my steps and every chance, opportunity, and step was predestined for me!

It may seem like luck to others but for me it’s the Lord!
