Meet Autumn Theodore of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Autumn Theodore.

Hi Autumn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography career started pretty organically. I was taking creative photos for fun, and eventually people started asking if they could pay me to take photos for them. What began as a creative outlet slowly grew into a business, and after four and a half years of balancing photography with my career in marketing, I took the leap into full-time self-employment. At the end of November, I’ll celebrate 10 years of working for myself! Today, I specialize in commercial photography, working with medium to large businesses and organizations of all sizes on everything from corporate events and executive portraits to branding and marketing campaigns.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate that, overall, it’s been a pretty smooth road. Of course, there have been ups and downs, but my business has remained remarkably consistent over the past 14+ years. I credit so much of that to the wonderful people I’ve had the opportunity to work with and their willingness to share their experiences with others. While some clients find me through online searches, the majority of my business has grown through word of mouth and referrals. I’m endlessly grateful for the relationships I’ve built and the people who continue to support my work!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in commercial photography, working with businesses and organizations on everything from corporate events and executive headshots to branding, marketing campaigns, and product photography. I love the variety of my work and the opportunity to meet so many interesting people along the way. I think what sets me apart is my ability to make people feel comfortable in front of the camera, even when being photographed is the last thing they want to do! I’m also known for being reliable, easy to work with, and delivering polished images with a quick turnaround. What I’m most proud of, though, is the trust I’ve built with my clients. Many have worked with me for years, and knowing they continue to invite me back is something I never take for granted.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think AI is going to be one of the biggest challenges and opportunities our industry faces over the next 5–10 years. But people were once afraid of electricity, automobiles, and the internet, too! Change is inevitable, and I think it’s our responsibility to adapt, grow, and find ways to make new technology work for us rather than against us. My approach has always been to lean into what feels right, embrace what works, and evolve alongside the industry. That said, I think event photography has some of the greatest staying power. There’s something irreplaceable about documenting real people, real interactions, and moments that actually happened, and I don’t see that going away anytime soon.
