Rising Stars: Meet Andrew Moore of National

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Moore.

Andrew, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up playing music in church. After high school and some college, I began mining coal in Kentucky, and West Virginia. After coal took a dive in 2008 I moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where I became a Commercial Diver and underwater welder. After a near death experience underwater, I moved to the Adirondack mountains in upstate New York, where I managed a hospitality company. It was there where I first started to sing and play music. There was a void in entertainment in the speakeasy, located in the basement of an old hotel. So I put together a few buddies and called the band. HOOCH and began performing 3 to 4 nights a week. I performed, there for nearly 6 years until my family was missing their roots in Kentucky so we moved back home to Kentucky. I started from scratch in Kentucky without a plan and found a new job and started putting together new band in Kentucky. I struck up a deal with Jeff Ruby steakhouse and auditioned and got the role of performing solo in 2018 then in 2020 formed the band known as Andrew Moore and HOOCH. In 2024 I showed a bunch of material that I had written over the years to my band and we began to record songs in the studio. That is when I released our first album Andrew Moore and HOOCH artists of the Moon. The album won Awards in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and in Nashville. So the mark was sent High starting with our debut album. I promised myself that moving forward, I would not take steps backwards and wanted to make another album of songs that were even better than our debut album so I began writing and putting songs together for two years and released a brand new album in August 2026 titled Andrew Moore and Hooch – Mountain.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is definitely not been smooth. I grew up working hard. And there are certain challenges that I will leave unspoken that I faced that absolutely broke my heart and divided family at points. Restarting my life back in Kentucky. In 2018 was not an easy task, but it was something that had to be done and I had to start my life over from scratch. I got rid of the nice things I had in life and got not so nice things in life in order to reset my life. Through adversity, I remained faithful to God, prayed hard, worked hard and kept my nose to the grindstone and it seems to be paying off nowadays because I’m finally seeing progress and success, especially in my music world..

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I lead my band of Andrew Moore HOOCH, which is a five piece Americana band. I write the music structure and lyrics for all of our songs. I am pretty proud to say that this year things have really started to takeoff. We now have a management company that represents us as well as public relations company and are on the verge of some other breakthroughs that I will leave unspoken at this time. I also became a Kentucky Colonel this year, as well as received a proclamation from the mayor of my hometown for efforts in organizing a charity concert for tornado victims in my hometown.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
As Wayne Gretzky said you missed 100% of the shots you don’t take. I am definitely a risk taker, for example moving from my nice life in upstate New York and starting my life over with not so nice things in Kentucky. It was a risk that I had to take and we did take.. I’ve spent a lot of time and money invest investing in the music of Andrew Moore and HOOCH and that alone was a big risk. Thankfully, the risk seems to be paying off now. I was invited to become a voting member of the Recording Academy this year. We are being nominated for multiple awards, and the future looks bright all because of risks taken..
