Exploring Life & Business with Sherita Carthon of PowerBrand Exp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherita Carthon.

Hi Sherita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey really started with me understanding the power of bringing people, ideas, and opportunities together. I’ve always been able to look at something and see beyond what it is right now—I see what it could become.
I started PowerBrand over a decade ago, and in the beginning, a lot of my work centered around events, entrepreneurship, marketing, and creating spaces where people could connect and be seen. But over the years, I realized that what I was really good at wasn’t just putting on an event or creating marketing—it was helping people take what was already inside of them and turn it into something that could actually grow.
That changed the direction of my business.
PowerBrand evolved from events into branding, business development, strategic partnerships, sponsorships, experiential marketing, and helping entrepreneurs and organizations build the infrastructure behind their ideas. I’ve had the opportunity to work with emerging entrepreneurs, established brands, celebrities, nonprofits, community organizations, and major corporate partners.
And I’ve learned a lot along the way—sometimes by getting it right and plenty of times by getting it wrong. I’ve had to reinvent myself, rebuild, take risks, and learn how to trust my own vision even when other people couldn’t see it yet.
Today, I consider myself a Celebrity Brand Strategist and a builder. I help people figure out what they have, what makes it valuable, how to position it, and most importantly, how to turn that vision into something sustainable and profitable.
So when I look back, I don’t really see one straight career path. I see a lot of experiences that eventually connected. And I think that’s probably the biggest part of my story—I kept evolving until all the pieces finally started making sense together.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road.

One of my biggest challenges has been learning that being talented and having great ideas doesn’t automatically mean you know how to build a sustainable business. I spent a lot of years being the person who could figure everything out, make things happen, connect the right people, and help other people’s visions come together—but I wasn’t always building the same infrastructure around myself.

I’ve had seasons where business was amazing and seasons where I had to completely rethink what I was doing. I’ve dealt with financial challenges, partnerships and relationships that didn’t work out the way I expected, being underestimated, and honestly, giving too much of myself to people and projects without always making sure it made good business sense for me.

Another challenge was learning that I didn’t have to do everything myself. When you’re used to being the person everybody calls to solve the problem, it can be difficult to step back, build systems, delegate, and allow other people to carry responsibility.

But I think those experiences are also what made me better at what I do today. I understand the difference between something looking successful and actually being sustainable. I understand how important contracts, systems, positioning, financial structure, and the right relationships are.

I’m still evolving. I don’t think you ever reach a point where there are no challenges. The difference now is that I don’t look at every obstacle as something that means I’m going in the wrong direction. Sometimes it’s just information. I learn from it, adjust, and keep building

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about PowerBrand Exp?
PowerBrandEXP is a brand strategy, business development, and experiential marketing company that helps people turn great ideas into brands, programs, partnerships, and experiences that can actually grow.

What we’re really known for is helping people connect the dots.

A client may come to us knowing they have something special but not necessarily knowing how to position it, package it, market it, fund it, or get it in front of the right people. That’s where we come in. We work across brand strategy, business development, corporate partnerships and sponsorships, experiential marketing, events, content strategy, and project execution.

What sets PowerBrand apart is that we don’t stop at telling someone what they should do. We help build the infrastructure to actually do it. That could mean repositioning an entrepreneur’s brand, developing a signature offer, creating a corporate partnership proposal, producing a large-scale experience, building out a marketing campaign, or helping an organization take an idea from a conversation to something tangible and executable.

Over the last decade, we’ve worked across entrepreneurship, entertainment, community development, nonprofit, corporate, and celebrity spaces. Our work has connected us with organizations and brands including BET, VH1, REVOLT, Cleveland Clinic, AWS, Chase, U.S. Bank, Destination Cleveland, FutureLAND, and many others. We’ve also produced and supported experiences reaching thousands of attendees while helping entrepreneurs and organizations create opportunities that extend far beyond the event itself.

What I’m most proud of, though, is the longevity. PowerBrand wasn’t built overnight. We’ve spent more than a decade learning, evolving, building relationships, producing experiences, making mistakes, adjusting, and continuing to grow.

Today, I describe PowerBrand as the bridge between **vision and execution**. You don’t necessarily have to walk through our door with everything figured out. You can come with the idea. Our job is to help determine what it can become, build the strategy around it, connect the right resources and relationships, and help move it forward.

Ultimately, we want people to know that PowerBrand doesn’t just make things look good—we help make ideas make sense, make money, create impact, and become sustainable.

What does success mean to you?
Success for me has changed a lot over the years.

There was a time when I probably measured success by how busy I was, how many people needed me, how big the opportunity was, or what I could accomplish. Today, I look at it very differently.

Success is freedom.

It’s being able to build a business that provides for me without requiring every piece of me in order for it to survive. It’s having the freedom to choose the projects I want to work on, the people I want to work with, and being comfortable saying no to things that no longer align with where I’m going.

Success is also impact. I love being able to look at something that started as a conversation or an idea and eventually see a business, an event, a partnership, a program, or an opportunity come out of it. Knowing that something I helped build created income, opened a door, connected people, or changed what someone believed was possible—that means something to me.

And finally, success is legacy.

I don’t just want to build something that looks successful while I’m standing in front of it. I want to build something that
