Meet Aubrey Ways of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Ways.

Hi Aubrey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Brown Sugar Fashion Gala was birthed in 2018 in Greensboro, NC by me, our CEO and Head Curatore, Aubrey Ways.
The fashion world consumed my life after I did my first 3-4 years as a fashion week participant as a Press, Media and Photo for NYFW Shows. 2018 Changed the trajectory of the Independent Fashion week experience for other 1,000 attendees to this point with us just finishing up our 20th show production all together and our 7th NYFW show. this foundational season has finally concluded and now going in to our next 2 show which will be in Miami in December for Art Basel and our 8th NYFW Production in February. It’s been a long journey full of ups and downs and all differently produced showcases.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely has not been a easy road and i’m pretty sure it’ll be some more ups and downs as we continue to grow. One of the biggest setbacks in a lot of show that have been less than satisfactory from my POV is finances and capital funds. Money makes money! A Major uphill battle is of course always the facts that when you do a show in a different state or city that you live in you have to very sturdy and consistent with your marketing and promotional strategy whether you have funds or not. This world forces you to get creative to make things work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently and i guess for the past decade I’ve been a Middle school through High school Teacher as well as a Middle School, High School, Collegiate abd AAU Track and Field Coach. I also am very much so living a double life in the art work with owning my own business, Brown Sugar Fashion Gala, which is what your interviewing me for! I also am an active Graphic Designer, Photographer, Creative Director,Videographer and content creator/Social Media Manager.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I have actually done 1 Show in Baltimore and I really love the City, I just wish it wasn’t so divided. Seems like its kind of cliquey from how promoting in the city went. some people genuinely don’t go to event because another person they don’t like is throwing it or going there even if it’s an event they would usually or love to go to. But it felt very community driven when people support the will build you up!
