Today we’d like to introduce you to Coco Simone.
Hi Coco, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Listen… I wish I could tell you I had this beautiful, well organized five year plan to become Comedian Coco Simone. I did not. 😂 Life was life-ing, bills were billing, motherhood was mothering, and somewhere in the middle of all that, I realized, “Wait a minute…this trauma is FUNNY!”
I’ve always been the funny one. You know the person who probably shouldn’t say what everybody in the room is thinking but says it anyway? Yeah. That’s me. I’ve always been able to find humor in real life: relationships, motherhood, work, dating, getting older, family, and just trying to be a responsible adult when I would personally like to unsubscribe from some of these responsibilities.
Eventually, I stopped giving all this comedy away for FREE and got on somebody’s stage!
And let me tell you stand-up comedy will humble you faster than a declined debit card at brunch.
When that first joke doesn’t hit, you learn real quick whether you’re built for this! But every stage taught me something. I learned how to read a room, trust my instincts, recover when a joke didn’t land, and most importantly, stop trying to be anybody other than Coco Simone.
Then my business side kicked in.
I realized I didn’t just want people to book me for their shows. I wanted to create my own opportunities. Because eventually I thought, “Why am I waiting on somebody to give me a seat at the table? Baby, I know how to buy a table!”
So I created Coco Simone Entertainment LLC.
And that’s when I discovered there are approximately 437 jobs involved in producing a comedy show. 😂
I became the comedian, producer, promoter, marketer, talent coordinator, negotiator, problem solver, ticket salesperson, social media department and occasionally the person standing at the door asking, “Now WHO put your name on the guest list?
But I loved it.
One of the moments that really confirmed I was building something special was launching my comedy tour Her Side Of The Joke in Dayton in 2025. The opening show sold out and exceeded our projected sales by 45%.
Now THAT will make you walk around the house talking about, “Alexa, play All I Do Is Win!”
Since then, I’ve continued creating and participating in comedy experiences throughout Ohio and beyond, including shows such as Freedom to Laugh and A Garden of Giggles, while collaborating with comedians, DJs, musicians, venues, small businesses, and other creatives.
But underneath all the jokes, that moment meant something much bigger to me. It proved that sometimes you have to stop waiting for someone else to recognize your vision and start investing in it yourself.
My story also goes way beyond comedy. I’m a mother, entrepreneur, business professional, community advocate, and lifelong learner. I’ve had conference calls, handled business, worked on school assignments, answered emails, promoted shows, raised a child, and then gotten onstage at night and made a room full of people laugh.
Basically, I have several personalities and fortunately, most of them are employed. 😂
There have been setbacks. There have been disappointments. There have been doors that didn’t open, people who didn’t see the vision, and moments when I questioned whether I was doing too much.
The answer was yes.
I was absolutely doing too much.
And then I did some more.
Because I learned something important along the way: you cannot build an extraordinary life while being committed to staying comfortable.
Comedy taught me how to bet on myself. Entrepreneurship taught me how to create opportunities instead of waiting for them. Motherhood taught me resilience. My professional career taught me how to handle business. And life taught me that sometimes the very things you thought would break you become the stories you stand onstage and tell later.
Today, I’m focused on taking Comedian Coco Simone and Coco Simone Entertainment, LLC to the next level bigger stages, bigger audiences, new cities, original productions, and opportunities to bring other talented people along with me.
I want people to leave a Coco Simone experience saying two things:
“My stomach hurts from laughing.”
…and…
“When is the next show?”
Because this journey was never just about becoming a comedian.
It’s about building something.
It’s about creating opportunities.
It’s about showing people especially women who are juggling careers, children, businesses, dreams, responsibilities, and a thousand other things that you are not too old, too busy, too late, or carrying too much to bet on yourself.
Sometimes your next chapter starts with one decision:
Stop waiting for permission.
And sometimes it starts with a microphone.
Mine just happened to start with both.
I’m Comedian Coco Simone and baby, we’re just getting started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth road? Absolutely not! 😂 If anybody tells you entrepreneurship, entertainment, motherhood, and chasing a dream at the same time is a smooth road, check on them because they are lying!
There have been potholes, detours, construction zones, road closures, and a few moments where I wanted to pull the whole car over and say, “You know what? Everybody get out. I’m done!”
One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to balance all the different versions of me. I’m Coco Simone the comedian, but I’m also a mother, businesswoman, entrepreneur, student, community advocate, and a woman with real-life responsibilities. There are days when I’m handling business all day, dealing with family responsibilities, working toward my personal goals, promoting a show, answering messages, solving somebody else’s emergency and then I’m supposed to walk onstage that night and be FUNNY.
Meanwhile, in my head I’m thinking, “Y’all better laugh because I have been THROUGH IT today!” 😂
Another challenge has been learning the business of entertainment. Being talented is one thing. Turning your talent into a sustainable business is something completely different. I’ve had to learn about contracts, negotiations, venues, ticket sales, marketing, promotion, budgeting, talent management, vendors, partnerships, and all the little details the audience never sees.
People see the flyer.
They don’t see the 97 text messages behind the flyer.
They see the packed room.
They don’t see you staring at ticket sales two weeks earlier asking God, “Now Lord…are these people coming or not?”
I’ve also had to learn that everybody who supports you verbally isn’t necessarily going to support you when it’s time to buy a ticket, share a flyer, make an introduction, or show up. That lesson can hurt, especially when you’re building something you’re passionate about. But it also teaches you to stop measuring your potential by the response of people who were never your audience in the first place.
And then there’s rejection.
Comedy and entertainment come with plenty of it. You won’t get every booking. Every opportunity won’t work out. Every room won’t understand your comedy. Every relationship won’t last. Sometimes you’ll watch people with less experience get opportunities you know you’re capable of handling.
I’ve learned not to let those moments make me bitter they make me build.
If I can’t get in the room, I might create the room.
That’s really been one of the defining lessons of my journey.
There have also been personal sacrifices. Building something requires time, money, energy, and consistency and sometimes you’re investing all four before you see any return. There were moments when quitting would’ve been easier. But I’ve learned that being uncomfortable doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going in the wrong direction. Sometimes it means you’re growing.
And I’ve definitely made mistakes.
Baby, I have paid tuition at the University of FAFO!😂
I’ve trusted the wrong people. I’ve learned lessons about business relationships. I’ve underestimated costs. I’ve overextended myself. I’ve tried to do everything instead of delegating. And I’ve had to learn that having a good heart doesn’t mean you operate a business without boundaries.
Every lesson made me sharper.
The biggest struggle, though, has probably been learning to give myself permission to dream bigger.
As women especially mothers we can become so accustomed to taking care of everybody else that our dreams keep getting pushed to the bottom of the list. At some point, I had to decide that pursuing something for myself wasn’t selfish.
I mattered too.
So no, the road hasn’t been smooth. But I wouldn’t erase the difficult parts because they built the version of Coco Simone you see today.
The rejection gave me resilience.
The mistakes gave me wisdom.
The disappointments gave me material.
And the obstacles gave me a reason to keep proving to myself that I could do it.
Besides, I’m a comedian.
If life is going to keep giving me problems, the least I can do is turn them into a joke and charge admission. 😂
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At the core of everything I do, I create experiences centered around laughter, connection, and good energy.
I’m a stand up comedian, event host, producer, promoter, entrepreneur, and the owner of Coco Simone Entertainment LLC. So depending on the day, I might be onstage telling jokes, hosting an event, producing a comedy show, negotiating with a venue, booking talent, creating promotional content, or somewhere asking, “Okay…but who was supposed to handle this?” 😂
My comedy is rooted in real life. I talk about relationships, dating, motherhood, careers, getting older, family, friendships, and all the ridiculous situations adulthood puts us in that nobody properly prepared us for.
I’m not trying to create some perfect character onstage. Coco Simone is me just with a microphone and considerably less of a filter.
I think that’s one of the things people connect with most. My comedy feels like you’re sitting at the table with your funniest girlfriend having the conversation everybody was thinking but nobody wanted to say out loud.
And trust me… I’m probably going to say it. 😂
But what really separates me is that I don’t only understand the performance side of entertainment I understand the business side too.
Through Coco Simone Entertainment, I’ve produced and promoted my own comedy experiences, booked and worked with other comedians and entertainers, partnered with venues and small businesses, marketed events, sold tickets, negotiated agreements, and built shows from an idea on paper into an actual room full of people laughing.
One of my proudest accomplishments was launching my comedy tour in Dayton in 2025. Our opening show sold out and exceeded projected ticket sales by 45%. That wasn’t just a successful show to me it was proof that people were willing to support an experience and brand that I created from the ground up.
That moment hit differently.
Because anybody can say, “I have a vision.”
It’s something completely different when people start buying tickets to it.
I’m also extremely proud of being able to create platforms for other comedians, artists, DJs, vendors, entrepreneurs, and creatives. Success feels different when you’re not the only person benefiting from what you’re building. I want Coco Simone Entertainment to become known not only for great comedy, but for creating opportunities and bringing talented people together.
Another thing that sets me apart is my professional background. I’m a comedian, but I also have years of corporate business experience and I’m continuing my education in law with a focus connected to government contracting. So I can go from discussing contracts and negotiations during the day to talking about somebody’s terrible dating decisions onstage that night.
That’s range, baby! 😂
My professional experience has actually made me a better entrepreneur. I understand negotiations, contracts, relationships, planning, budgets, accountability, and the importance of protecting the business behind the brand.
And I believe that’s important because I’m not building Coco Simone just for the next show.
I’m building a legacy.
Ultimately, what I’m most proud of isn’t one performance, one sold-out event, or one accomplishment. I’m proud that I kept going.
I’ve built this while being a mother. While maintaining a professional career. While continuing my education. While navigating disappointments, changes, responsibilities, and real life.
I didn’t wait until my life became perfectly convenient to chase my dream because if I had waited for that, I’d still be waiting.
What sets Coco Simone apart is the combination of comedy, business, authenticity, resilience, and purpose.
I can make you laugh.
I can produce the show.
I can negotiate the contract.
I can market the event.
I can create the opportunity.
And if necessary, I can also tell you why Section 12 of that agreement needs to be rewritten before anybody signs anything. 😂
But underneath all of that is something much simpler:
I want people to laugh. I want people to feel good. I want other creatives to have opportunities. And I want people watching my journey to realize that it’s never too late to bet on yourself.
I’m not interested in just getting booked.
I’m building something worth booking.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that surprises people is that Coco Simone and Tierra are two completely different levels of volume. 😂
People see me onstage, hosting events, producing shows, networking, talking to everybody, and commanding a room, so they naturally assume I’m “ON” all the time.
Absolutely not.
When the lashes come off and the microphone gets put away, I actually enjoy peace, quiet, traveling, reading, learning, and sometimes doing absolutely NOTHING. And please don’t call me during that nothing. 😂
I think people are also surprised by how much of a business and legal nerd I am behind the comedy.
I’m currently pursuing a Master of Studies in Law with a focus connected to government contracting, and professionally, I’ve spent years working in procurement, purchasing, sourcing, contracts, and negotiations.
So yes, I can get onstage and talk about dating, motherhood, relationships, and the foolishness of everyday life but I can also sit down and have a serious conversation about contracts, negotiations, procurement strategy, FAR/DFARS requirements, and business.
Basically, I know punchlines AND purchase orders.😂
People sometimes think being a comedian means you’re always joking or that entertainment is the only thing you take seriously. For me, comedy is one part of a much bigger picture. I’m extremely ambitious, analytical, and intentional about what I’m building.
Another thing people may not realize is that underneath the confidence, I’ve had moments where I’ve questioned myself just like everybody else.
I’ve walked into rooms looking completely confident while internally thinking, “Girl…what are we doing here?”
But I’ve learned that confidence doesn’t always mean you’re fearless. Sometimes confidence is simply deciding that fear isn’t going to make the decision for you.
That’s probably the biggest difference between the woman people see today and earlier versions of me.
I’ve learned to show up anyway.
So the surprising thing about Coco Simone might be that behind all the jokes, big personality, and laughter is a woman who is constantly learning, planning, evolving, and building.
The comedy might get your attention.
But the woman behind the microphone is the part of the story I’m most excited for people to discover.
