Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecil Holston II.
Hi Cecil, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a licensed mastered social worker better known as a “Therapist.” I have been in the field for 17 years and have done work with fathers, reentering individuals, families, adults, and children. I began as a social worker being influenced by my mother and grandmother. They are the reason that I decided to take on the career as a social worker. They were always helping others and giving back to the local community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say the only obstacle has been myself and my personal journey. I lost my mom, May 5, 2021 and that changed me along with changing how I worked with others as a therapist. I learned about myself through engaging in grief therapy and understanding how grief affects the person in physical and mental ways.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a therapist that specializes in anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief work. I am known for work with adolescents and adults, specifically males and young males. I am the most proud of the work that I do in my community and that a majority of my referrals come from now due to the good work that I am producing with my current clients. I have referred to myself as “Death Row Therapy” which simply means when you come and sit on my couch, you are not going want to go to anyone else for your healing.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is being at my grandma’s house playing Sonic on the Sega Genesis.
