Community Highlights: Meet Robyn Matthews of Rockin’ Robyn’s Takeout

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Matthews.

Hi Robyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Robyn Matthews is the founder of Rockin’ Robyn’s Takeout which started for her back in 2018 while she was in college working on her Bachelor’s of Science degree at the University of Toledo. She has always had an interest for culinary, as a child she use to watch her late grandmother cook meals for the family and even learned a few things. Her passion grew from just selling meals on weekends from her college apartment where her colleagues would tell her how much they enjoyed it. She then thought about perusing it as a career later on after college. It was more of a therapeutic hobby for her that eventually she made a living off of when she got her restaurant in 2023. Spreading love through food was something she always experienced going out to eat with friends/family and wanted to one day do for others in her own restaurant.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly the beginning part was pretty smooth, scary but smooth transition since I’ve already been working in kitchens and building my brand ahead of time. Of course it’s different since I’m in charge of EVERYTHING but I never doubted myself of being capable, just needed to learn the business. Over the years I can say staffing has been the most challenging part of business for me because in order to have an efficient restaurant you will need good, reliable help which is hard to come by these days.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rockin’ Robyn’s Takeout ?
Rockin’ Robyn’s is a newer takeout restaurant in Cleveland,OH. We specialize in wings and Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, while we also serve different things such as Breakfast sandwiches/bowls, quesadillas, salads, burgers, loaded fries, etc.

I’m beyond proud of myself for taking the leap into entrepreneurship and believing in my craft to get me this far. Starting a business isn’t always easy, but I feel like since my story is a bit different that I’m doing what God wanted me to do.

Since I started off as a Caterer, I do still provide catering services to the public where they can find Lamb chops, Meatballs , Mac and cheese, Green beans, etc. on the catering menu.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe anything of my journey was luck by any means. I do believe my faith in God has carried me through it all because once I had a plan, and started working towards the goal it flowed so well you would think it was luck! I am blessed and highly favored but deserve everything because I work for it.
