Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Reed.
Hi Todd, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always had a vision of doing an interactive Halloween horror attraction. I met my wife eight years ago, and realized she shared the same dream. We started out by going to Halloween trade shows, we watched DIY Haunted House documentaries, and then we started going to haunted houses all over the United States.
I’ve suggested that we go to Universal Orlando, to look at how an attraction can look with a massive multimillion dollar budget. After taking all of this in, we made notes.
We first wrote down what all of these attractions had in common, so we would know what “not“ to do!
Then we wrote down ideas and collected visuals from movies that we really love to watch together.. Next we comprised a list of cool stuff that wasn’t necessarily something you would see in Halloween attractions, but things that we thought were really artistically innovative that we could use as a base to build our own unique attraction. We spent the last five years, purchasing obscure materials, and fabricating unique props and costumes, and then storing them in our workshop until we would find the perfect place to build our dream Halloween attraction. This will be the first year, where we finally get to unveil phase one of our Halloween dream.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been an easy road to walk. The first city in Ohio, that we built the Halloween attraction in, we were about 70% complete when the city decided they were going to shut us down before we ever even open the doors. As you can imagine this was a major financial loss for us and we would have to recover from an over $150,000 loss. To add insult to injury, someone infiltrated the warehouse where we were building and stole thousands of dollars worth of electronics and various items that we were planning on using.
We got a call from someone who owned a semi famous drag racing strip, outside of Columbus, Ohio. They were interested in someone building an outdoorHalloween attraction. Less than a year after we moved a majority of our building materials, and a shipping container packed full of brand new materials and products with price tags still owns them…… The owner of the Racetrack sold it to another company who stole, threw away, or sold all of our property that was being stored there for the upcoming Halloween season.
Third time is a charm, as they say. We met a very nice lady named Dena Scott, who had recently finished construction on 100 acre Animal Rescue/bed-and-breakfast. She asked us if we would be interested in building the Halloween attraction there on the property. We signed a mutual contract agreeing that 50% of the profit would go to the Animal Rescue, and we started building in the middle of summer 2026.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I recently designed a permanent exhibit at the number one children science museum in the world COSI in Columbus, Ohio. I was one of the head sculptors at OTHERWORLD OHIO. I have done installation art at Cedar Point amusement park, and we have built props for multiple Six Flags theme, parks and haunted houses all across the US.
What set my company apart from the rest is, we do not follow trends, we are always looking for a way to do something completely bizarre and out of the box. I think our Halloween attraction this year will be the thing that sets us apart from others.
HUNGER HOLLER FARMS is not an average Haunted House, in fact it is not even what we would consider a Haunted House at all. It is a completely immersive/interactive atomic age Halloween horror experience.
What matters most to you? Why?
What would matter most to me right now? Is that we have an average “good“ opening this year. I am mostly wishing for quality of guest, instead of quantity. We really want people who are very much into this art form to experience what we have built, and tell everyone they run into about the good things that we have done with our Halloween attraction. We really want to unveil some of our innovative secrets that we have been carrying around for half a decade. And we really want to demonstrate to the industry that there can be extremely different options for this type of attraction.
