Hidden Gems: Meet O’shayia Richardson of Luna’s Luminance

Today we’d like to introduce you to O’shayia Richardson.

Hi O’shayia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I never imagined that one of the hardest experiences of my life would eventually become the reason behind something so meaningful.

On December 6, 2023, I lost my daughter, LunaBella, to stillbirth. That loss changed me in ways I am still learning how to put into words. Then, in March 2025, I experienced a miscarriage just two days after losing my grandfather. Grief became something I knew very personally, and I also learned how isolating pregnancy loss can feel, even when you are surrounded by people who love you.

That is where Luna’s Luminance was born.

I created it because I wanted to build the kind of support I wish I had during some of my darkest moments. A place where parents experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, and pregnancy loss could feel seen, remembered, supported, and not so alone.

Like most things born during grief, the journey has not been perfectly linear. Life happened. Depression happened. Survival happened. There were times when I had to step away and simply focus on getting through my own life.

Recently, I found myself coming back to Luna’s Luminance and realizing that everything I created was still there—my website, my links, and more importantly, the purpose behind it. It reminded me that some dreams do not die; sometimes they simply wait for us.

Today, I am rebuilding Luna’s Luminance with a much clearer vision. I am working toward creating memory boxes and care packages for grieving families, building partnerships with hospitals, growing a supportive community, and creating resources that honor both the babies who were lost and the parents who continue carrying their love.

What began in heartbreak is slowly becoming purpose, and I am taking it one step at a time. 🌙

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been building something centered around grief while still actively grieving myself. Luna’s Luminance was created from the hardest experience of my life to date, so sometimes working on it felt healing, and other times it felt emotionally heavy.

There have also been practical challenges: funding things on my own, figuring out how to grow the organization, creating materials, developing care packages, and learning how to turn a personal mission into something that can truly serve other families. A lot of what I have created so far has been self-funded and built piece by piece.

Another challenge has been consistency. Life does not stop just because you have a purpose. I am still a mother; I still work, I still have responsibilities, and I still have moments where grief shows up unexpectedly. There have been times when I had to step away from Luna’s Luminance and focus on surviving my own life first.

But I think that is also what gives this work its meaning. I am not building from a place of having everything figured out. I am building from experience, love, and the desire to make sure another parent feels a little less alone than I did.

Luna’s Luminance is a grief-support organization created to support families navigating miscarriage, stillbirth, and pregnancy loss. The heart of the organization is simple: helping people feel less alone during some of the darkest moments of their lives.

What sets Luna’s Luminance apart is the way I am building support around the real, often overlooked moments that come with pregnancy loss. I know how disorienting it can be to leave the hospital without your baby, to go home with empty arms, and to be expected to continue life while carrying a grief that feels impossible to explain. Because of that, everything I create is intentional, personal, and centered around comfort, remembrance, and emotional support.

I have created healing guides, memorial materials, care package concepts, and resources for grieving families, and I am currently working toward expanding Luna’s Luminance into memory boxes that can be provided through hospitals and made available directly to families. My long-term goal is to build partnerships with hospitals so families can receive support at the very beginning of their grief, when they may not even know what they need yet.

What I am most proud of is that Luna’s Luminance continues to grow from love. It keeps LunaBella’s memory alive while also creating something meaningful for other families. I want people to know that this is not just a brand to me. It is deeply personal, and every part of it is being built with the hope that someone experiencing loss can find even a small amount of light in a very dark place. 🌙
