Check Out Lester Parker’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lester Parker.

Hi Lester, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in a small, historic Black village, known as the first self-governing Black community north of the Mason-Dixon Line. From a young age, I have always been the outspoken child. Being the only boy made me even more outspoken and willing to challenge things I believed were wrong, regardless of my age.
I have always felt called to speak up for others, especially those who may not feel comfortable speaking for themselves or may not know how to find their voice. I truly believe this is part of who God created me to be.

Life has put me through many tests and challenges, but those experiences have helped shape me into the leader I am today. I believe everyone has a story, and we have a responsibility to share those stories so the next generation can learn from our experiences, avoid unnecessary struggles, and become stronger because of what we have overcome.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been the smoothest ride for me. Growing up, I was a child who was sometimes misunderstood. Being diagnosed with ADHD at a young age played a significant role in my life, and learning how to navigate something that others didn’t always understand came with its own challenges.
I’ve been through a lot, and learning to advocate for myself was a long but necessary process. It taught me how to find my voice, understand myself, and grow into the person I am today.

Growing up without a present father also shaped the way I viewed life and relationships. But I was blessed to have an amazing grandfather and bonus dad who stepped in and helped fill that gap. Their love, guidance, and presence reminded me that family isn’t always defined by blood it’s also defined by who shows up, who pours into you, and who helps you become the best version of yourself.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Civic engagement and voting rights matter deeply to me because the people who came before us fought hard to secure these rights and opportunities for future generations. I believe we have a responsibility to honor their sacrifices by staying informed, understanding what is happening in our communities and government, and using our voices. Politics plays a major role in our day-to-day lives, whether we realize it or not. I feel it is part of my responsibility to help educate others by breaking down complicated political language and making information easier to understand, so people can feel empowered to participate and make informed decisions.

My faith matters to me because God is at the center of everything I do. Before every opportunity, decision, and new journey, I pray and trust that He is guiding my steps. My faith gives me strength, keeps me grounded, and reminds me that I never have to face life’s challenges alone. It encourages me to move forward with purpose, even when I cannot see what lies ahead.

My family matters to me because they believed in me during the moments when I struggled to believe in myself. Their love, encouragement, and unwavering support have carried me through some of my hardest moments. They continue to remind me of who I am, where I come from, and what I am capable of becoming. Their belief in me motivates me to keep growing, pursuing my goals, and becoming the best version of myself.
