Today we’d like to introduce you to James Logan.
Hi James, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out recording a YouTube show about producing music. It was my first experience filming or editing anything, and I quickly became hooked. To my surprise, the show impressed some of the people around me, and before long, a few engaged couples began asking if I would film their weddings.
I had absolutely no experience in the wedding industry, but I threw myself into it anyway. Maybe it was the challenge of figuring things out as I went, the joy of helping couples relax and genuinely enjoy their day, or hearing years later that their kids ask to watch “mommy and daddy get married” several times a month. Whatever it was, nearly ten years later, I’m completely hooked.
Building James Logan Films has become the perfect combination of what I love most about this work: constantly challenging myself to create incredible, high-end films, being a pleasant and steady presence that helps couples enjoy their wedding day, and ultimately being someone they know they can depend on.
More than anything, I feel incredibly blessed that something I love doing has also become a way to provide for my family. Getting to build this business while supporting my wife as she prepares to stay home with our growing family, and providing for our daughter, gives all of it an even deeper purpose.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A smooth road? Absolutely not.. Every wedding day comes with its own specific set of challenges. I might have to completely rethink my original plan to ensure great audio. The itinerary might be horribly planned. I might find myself driving home at two in the morning with another wedding waiting for me the next day.
This is not an easy industry. No matter how talented or experienced you become, you will run into problems that require you to think creatively and adapt quickly, all while keeping the day flowing and your attitude intact. Over the years, I’ve learned that being a great wedding filmmaker is just as much about how you handle the unexpected as it is about what you can do with a camera.
But no diamond is made without intense heat and pressure. Nearly ten years of navigating those challenges has shaped not only the filmmaker I’ve become, but the person couples can trust when things don’t go according to plan.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create cinematic wedding films that preserve not only what a wedding day looked like, but what it felt like, giving couples the ability to relive those memories throughout their marriage.
I’m known for a style that goes beyond simply creating something beautiful. I’m always looking for the natural, raw, authentic emotion of the day: the small interactions, the unexpected moments, and the people who make it meaningful.
My goal is to create something beautiful, but more importantly, to recreate the memory honestly. Every film is shaped around the couple, their personalities, and the way their day actually felt, so no two films are ever quite the same.
How do you define success?
Success, to me, is learning how to consistently exceed expectations in the most meaningful and fulfilling ways. And it’s just as important to learn how to have fun throughout that process.
