Meet Maureen Walsh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maureen Walsh.

Maureen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I went to the Savannah College of Art and Design and studied fibers. After graduating, I moved to Brooklyn and after a couple years of random artist assistant jobs and retail, a friend from school and I started a successful design studio. It was a wild and fun time… lots of work, expansive creation and also a lot of partying.

My Dad got sick at the end of 2012, which shifted the course of my life. I had already lost my Mom at 16 after a two year battle with brain cancer. I was blessed to be with her, holding her hand when she passed away in our back yard. I didn’t really deal with the emotions of losing her at such a young age, so watching my Dad die in a similar way changed me at a level I couldn’t ignore. I went back and forth from NYC to Cleveland to be with him as much as I could and he eventually passed away in March of 2013.

Watching my Dad struggle to let go and also the weight of no longer having parents at the age of 31 sent me on a deep path of self discovery and healing. I traveled around the world and studied for many years. I studied with many master healers and artists and healed many parts of myself that I ignored for decades. My focus shifted from making art for a living to more meditation, healing sessions and retreats.

I lived at an ashram in India for about a year in 2017 and taught myself to paint my first mural. When I returned to the states, I started getting commissions to paint and moved into the public art field. I also expanded my healing work internationally as the majority of the session I do are online. For a while my work felt like two separate parts of myself, but more recently the art and healing has been integrating into a more fluid offering.

I’m an eternal student and recently I’ve been going deep into mediumship and that is brought through in my session work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road but I wouldn’t trade my journey for anything.

I’ve had my own business since I graduated from college, so at times it’s felt like a lot of pressure. I’ve worked hard to be gentle with myself because I have been my own worst critic.

I’ve always followed the beat of my own drum which hasn’t always been easy as my life doesn’t look the same as my family of origin. I’ve really learned to trust myself, my intuition and my creativity. It’s been a journey of not giving up even when it would have been easier to go work for someone else. My work is an extension of who I am and so I’ve learned that the more I go within, even when it’s hard, the more beauty and success I see in the world around me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a visionary artist and energy guide. I work with many different mediums but I love textiles + natural dyes and painting large scale murals. I’m also a musician and write my own songs. I have a goal to record some of my music in the next year.

I work one on one with people and I also run several group containers and retreats a year. I teach people to feel and embody their own energy, to trust their intuition.

I have a new offering which is a regular energy session that I call Visionary Realignment combined with an energy portrait. So as I guide my clients through the process I’m also creating a custom piece of art for them based on what I see in their energy field. I then send it to them after the session. The art is encoded with the work from the session and it’s a reminder of their power and magic any time they forget.

What were you like growing up?
I’m one of six children, the oldest girl of three boys and three girls. I was creative and kind but painfully shy. I loved writing and reading. My Mom was one of eleven and so I have a ton of cousins. My Grandma used to orchestrate plays in the summer which was so much fun. We would have auditions and she would help us make all the sets and costumes. We had play practice all summer and then did a big performance just before going back to school. I loved playing with my cousins and creating worlds and art.
