Meet David Spasic of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Spasic.

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Back in 2013 we had a live/work studio space where we would make art and run a screen printing business. We started collecting pinball machines and fixing them up in our down time and would open up the space once a month for people to check out the art and play the pinball machines. Eventually we had built up a pretty consistent crowd so we took the leap and opened up a storefront. It’s been 11 years now since the pinball parlor opened and people are still telling us how excited they are to have discovered us.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We had a lot of challenges getting the historic building we are in up to code for our purposes. It took a big investment in kitchen equipment and a sprinkler system funded on an artist budget. Since then it’s been mostly smooth sailing with some hiccups from the pandemic and more recently from power outages and flooding. Rising utilities and other expenses have made it a bigger challenge to grow or even sustain but we try to endure with relentless positivity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We try to infuse our creativity as a team in every aspect of the business. We’re constantly designing fun new merchandise, planning new tournaments and events, or coming up with new cocktails for patrons to enjoy. Many of our games have been restored by us and we try to keep the collection changing all the time so there’s always something new to play when you come in.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Resilience in the face of challenges or maybe just plain stubbornness has played a big part but we also strive to be a place for everyone to come enjoy and feel welcomed. Because of that I think a lot of great opportunities have come our way and helped us through challenges.
