Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Travis.
Hi Joseph , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Eastside Wraps started with a simple idea: turn a passion for cars into something bigger. I used to work at a factory making the film. We had access to the extra film and would do small projects at home. I loved it
What began as learning the craft, taking on small jobs, and building a reputation one vehicle at a time slowly grew into a real business. There wasn’t a massive budget or some perfect roadmap—just hard work, long days, mistakes, improvements, and the determination to keep growing.
As more customers trusted us with their vehicles, Eastside Wraps expanded beyond vinyl wraps into paint protection film, window tint, ceramic coatings, detailing, and custom automotive styling.
Today, Eastside Wraps is about more than changing the color of a car. It’s about building something from the ground up, taking pride in the work, and showing what can happen when you bet on yourself.
And we’re still just getting started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the biggest struggles along the way were the things people usually don’t see behind the finished cars and social media posts.
In the beginning, there was the challenge of learning the craft and realizing that every mistake costs money. Vinyl gets wasted, jobs take longer than expected, customers have high expectations, and sometimes you have to redo work just to make sure your name is attached to something you’re proud of.
Then came the business side—finding consistent customers, paying the bills during slow weeks, buying better equipment and materials, hiring and training the right people, and figuring out how to price jobs so the business actually makes money.
As Eastside Wraps grew, the problems didn’t disappear—they just changed. More customers meant more scheduling, bigger expenses, more responsibility, and the pressure of maintaining the reputation we had built.
There were definitely moments where it would have been easier to quit. But every difficult job, slow month, mistake, and setback taught us something. The struggles that made growing Eastside Wraps difficult are also what made the business stronger.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Eastside Wraps, we specialize in transforming, protecting, and personalizing vehicles. Our main services include vinyl wraps, paint protection film (PPF), window tint, ceramic coatings, commercial graphics, and automotive restyling.
We’ve become especially known for our full vehicle color changes and PPF installations. Whether someone wants to completely change the look of their vehicle or protect a brand-new car while keeping the factory appearance, we focus on delivering work that looks clean, intentional, and built to last.
What I’m most proud of is how far Eastside Wraps has come. We didn’t start as some huge operation with unlimited resources. We built our reputation one vehicle and one customer at a time. Seeing customers trust us with everything from their daily drivers to high-end and exotic vehicles is something I never take for granted.
Another thing I’m extremely proud of is being able to teach the craft to other people. We’ve expanded into professional PPF training, helping other installers learn not only installation techniques, but also how to turn those skills into a business of their own.
What sets Eastside Wraps apart is that we genuinely care about the finished product and the customer’s experience. We’re not interested in simply getting a car in and out the door. We want someone to pick up their vehicle, look at it, and feel like they’re driving something completely different.
At the end of the day, we don’t just wrap cars—we’ve built a brand around creativity, craftsmanship, protection, and helping people bring their vision to life. And I’m proud that something that started small has grown into a business that continues to evolve every year.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve always believed that you have to be willing to take risks if you want to build something bigger for yourself. Starting Eastside Wraps was a risk in itself. There’s a big difference between doing something you enjoy and depending on it to support yourself, your family, your employees, and eventually an entire business.
As the company grew, I had to take even bigger risks—investing money back into the business, purchasing equipment and materials, taking on a larger overhead, expanding the services we offered, and trusting that the customers would continue to come. There have definitely been times when I’ve invested money into something without knowing for certain whether it would pay off.
I don’t think taking risks means being reckless, though. There’s a difference between gambling and taking a calculated risk. I try to look at the worst-case scenario and ask myself, “If this doesn’t work, can I recover from it?” If the answer is yes and I believe the potential upside is worth it, I’m usually willing to take the chance.
Some risks have worked out better than others. I’ve made mistakes, spent money in places I probably wouldn’t spend it again, and learned some lessons the expensive way. But I also know that if I had waited until everything felt completely safe, Eastside Wraps probably wouldn’t be where it is today.
One of the biggest things entrepreneurship has taught me is that growth usually requires being uncomfortable. You’re never going to have every answer or know exactly how something will turn out.
For me, the goal isn’t to avoid risk—it’s to understand the risk, prepare for the downside, and still have the confidence to bet on yourself when the opportunity makes sense.
