Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaden Taylor.
Hi Jaden, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey with photo and art when I was in high school, taking photos on my phone for class. I then upgraded to a point and shoot camera bought by my Dad to be in the class. Until saving up for months and into the summer to buy my own DSLR and then experimenting with point and shoot film cameras. I was gifted a Polaroid camera also by my grandparents-which really became such a symbol for my joy of photo.
What started as a ‘just for fun’ hobby and “for school” became something I started practicing with local friends and started to receive referrals from people I worked with. I began taking on gigs and expanding my craft. I began to see genuine peace within my life and a visceral escape from my life-through art.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been always been smooth road, for me allowing myself the space to identify more than openly as a HOH hard of hearing artist. It has many challenges where I finally took into account how much of a huge step it is for someone navigating with hearing loss in art spaces, business and in community.
I took a lot of space to work with this and transmute into healing and advocacy for disabled, working and non working, ARTISTS(and all artists)!
My peer, Dexter Komakaru invited me along in 2025 to work on a project called ‘EarthBody’ for the Rhizome Culture Hack Labs fellowship. Where we studied and researched a narrative we wanted to shift. Ours was grief, as I worked on this project I began to explore the multiplicities of disability grief. Artistically, I began making plans to carry and identify that more through my art moving forward or share works I wasn’t so comfortable sharing at other times!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist. I mainly concentrate my work in photography. Scaling from landscapes of nature, self portraits. I also paint, draw, and create digital mixed media works, jewelry design/3D works.
I have published writing through the Ohio State University in an anthology ‘Take on Love’ with poetry writings in summer of 2019.
In 2020 I was commissioned for my first ever photo shoot by my best friend Aaron Remone. I was welcomed to help create promotion work for his clothing line, Merge Clothing where I was able to begin product work/portraiture and design experimentation. In 2020, we released a collaboration ‘How Do You Feel’, a project focusing on Black mental health.
Through this, I began experimenting with “pop ups” at markets, selling Merge Clothing products while the release lasted, and my personal artwork. Containing photo prints and my jewelry works.
Moving onwards, to the now- I have picked my camera lens back up through the midst of changes.
I was invited by friend, Maya Seri from Femme Foto Columbus to join a photo challenge with femme and queer photographers in the city to photograph one model!!
This year, I also participated at my job’s staff art exhibition for the Columbus Metropolitan Library in the Patrick Losinski Gallery that opened in February.
One thing I feel that sets me apart from other artists, are my consistent themes and subjects and styles that I identify with in my art. I am always reflecting on my work or fixing new life in turn of old or works I didn’t realize before.
I have experimented with different forms and eras throughout my work. I also am very patient with myself when I have experienced forms of art “burnout” and periods of non-inspiration as I navigate my young adulthood.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
To work with me, people can inquire on my website through my booking request forum for photography.
