Today we’d like to introduce you to Sawaun Blakely.
Hi Sawaun, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Fashion has always been a passion of mine. It all started when I was about 10 yrs. old. I would dress my mother for church, business meeting, etc. I remember she would come in my room and say boo, (that’s my nickname) which pantsuit should I wear or which heel. My Mother was always the fashion guru. I love how she played with colors and hats and fishnet stockings. So, one day my mother was like, why don’t you style people and get paid for it. I didn’t even know that was a thing. I started styling people in church which led to me being asked to do events to where I am now. Thank you, mom! 🕊
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth. I live in a city where most people don’t want to get dressed up to go to events because they think what for, it’s going to be the same people there. So, I have been teaching my clients to get dressed for themselves. “When you look good you feel good. Clientele in my city is based off of an event is going on. That’s when I get the most clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a stylist/image consultant. I specialize in helping people look and feel their best. Also, helping them step out the box (their norm) things they wouldn’t normally wear I’m going to push for them to wear and show them that it looks good on them. I’m most proud of my creativity and where it has taken me. We are our worse critic so a lot of times I may not feel like I have executed something but then it turn out bomb. What sets me apart from others is I’m going to give every client the same 5-star experience. I go Above and beyond.
How do you define success?
I define success by setting goals for myself and accomplishing those goals. It may not be today, tomorrow, or the next day, but that goal will get completed and that’s success for me.
