Rising Stars: Meet Lindsey Mahoney of Toledo/NW Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Mahoney.

Hi Lindsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey really began when I gave birth to my second child in 2016. While on maternity leave, I created my blog, Building Bluebird, and began to share our home renovation projects online. We were living in Denver where I was working in digital advertising and my husband and I were tackling live-in flips. We found homes that needed some work and spent two years fixing them up while living in them. In 2016, we were in our third home and I was ready to begin the transition to make turn my passion of real estate and renovation into a full-time career.

We moved back to our hometown of Toledo, Ohio where I became a real estate agent and we began purchasing investment properties. Six years later, I am focused on building my real estate business and sharing DIY and home renovation content through my blog. Although we are no longer focused on investment properties, I am hoping to venture back into this arena when our kids are older.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. When we first moved back to Toledo, Ohio, I would say I had a bit of rose colored glasses on. I spread myself too thin by trying too many ideas at one time – rental properties, flipping houses, becoming a real estate agent, building a website etc. After about a year, I realized that I needed to focus on a few key areas of my business in order to build a sustainable brand. This led me to focus on growing my real estate business and building my blog by sharing DIY projects within our family home (instead of flipping investment properties).

Sharing content on my blog has been incredibly rewarding, however, the ever changing algorithms on social media platforms and search engines have been a challenge that requires constant attention. What I love most about blogging is that it marries two of my skill sets. First, I get to share my creativity to design a beautiful home without spending a fortune. Second, I get to grow a business by analyzing data and improving efficiencies to increase visits to my website. It is the perfect mix of my creative and analytical side.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have two businesses that complement each other. As a real estate agent, I am a professional that is able to utilize my creative experience to help clients get their home ready to sell or help buyers envision how they can turn a house into a home they love.

While I run my DIY blog as a business, it allows me to be more creative sharing DIY projects big and small. At Building Bluebird, we share tips to unlock the potential of every space through curated DIY tutorials, budget-friendly
decor ideas, and insider tips for navigating estate sales like a pro. As a working mother of two kiddos, I know first-hand the challenges of decorating a home with time and budget constraints! On the blog, you will find approachable content that is great for DIY beginners.

What does success mean to you?
As a real estate agent, I define success by knowing I helped my clients with one of the largest transactions they may make in their lifetime. Whether it is highlighting all of the beautiful aspects of their home to maximize their profit when they sell their home or helping new homeowners realize the potential of their next home, it is an honor to assist clients with this big and oftentimes stressful transaction.

With Building Bluebird, I create content with the goal of taking the intimidation out of decorating your home and inspiring readers to create a space that gives them energy, regardless of budget. The more readers that visit my website to find useful information, the more successful it becomes.
