Rising Stars: Meet Lauren Tucker-Haywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Tucker-Haywood.

Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been in every FOH position from serving, to barback, bartender, head bartender, and now Mobile bar owner. I am a big believer in working your way up and having the drive and determination to create something for yourself. I have 8 years of bar training/experience and I’ve worked in every atmosphere from sports bar to night lounge to fine dining.

Bartending got me through college because like many minorities,
we either have to go through FAFSA for money for school or pay out of pocket. As many people now know, bartending is a fast past and fast-money career choice. Every college student needs money and if you know college town there’s a bar on every corner.

I graduated Cleveland State with a B.A in Health Sciences. I had the choice to go back to school for my master’s or to continue my job until I figured out what I wanted to do.

Honestly, I didn’t want to waste the money so I decided to take a break from school.

Mint 2B Tipsy was started in 2018, as an idea on a receipt paper (while I was working as head bartender at Wild Mango in Legacy one of the many bartending jobs I’ve had in my 8 years of experience ). I was pregnant with my daughter, and I decided to take my future in my own hands and build something that I can one day pass on to my children. In this 1 almost 2-year time span (we became a registered business in 2019), I’ve met some amazing people, brands, and business owners.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business during the pandemic, and also with no business-related education was very challenging. Understanding the liquor laws in Ohio, and doing research also got very discouraging during the road to Mint 2B Tipsy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a private bartender, who started my own Mobile bartending company. I specialize in Bar Catering and Crafting Cocktail menus.

I think what sets me apart from most mobile bartending companies is that I love to customize my clients’ bars based on the theme of their event.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that our city has so much talent. We have a lot of different restaurants and bars, Cleveland is really a foodie type of town
