Rising Stars: Meet Keri Sullivan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keri Sullivan.

Hi Keri, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started at The Barrel Room one day a week as a server for parties. It was shortly after a divorce and was a flexible way for me to make money and still be home with my kids. After working there a few years for the original owner I decided that I wanted to have a place of my own. I started looking when that owner came to me and offered to sell it to me. I purchased it in 2014 with 2 partners and then bought said partners out the following year. It has definitely evolved several times since that purchase. In 2018 I decided I wanted something that I built myself from scratch. That is when the Canal Fulton building came my way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but a very adventurous one. There are a lot of struggles in this industry itself. However, The Canal Fulton location was hit with a 100-year flood prior to our grand opening. And then of course we had to deal with all of the fallout from Covid. Covid has definitely changed the landscape of the industry and we are still navigating those changes.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I feel like The Barrel Room offers up an atmosphere like no other bar in the area. We strive to be a place where you can make memories. Several of our customers describe it as the local Cheers or just hanging out in someone’s living room.

We are definitely known for our party space. We have watched people make memories for over a decade. From engagement parties to wedding showers, baby showers, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and even wakes. It is always so fulfilling to see pictures on social media where people used our space.

We also boast one of the best craft beer, wine, and bourbon lists in the area. Our staff is knowledgeable and friendly and always ready to help you find the perfect drink.

We are proud that we are not just a bar. We are a community that supports one another… We also do our best to support local charities and get back to our communities.

What’s next?
The most exciting thing on the horizon is a speakeasy that we are currently curating at the Canal Fulton location. We are very excited about the vibe that it’s going to bring to the beautiful, historic community. We also do our best to support local charities and get back to our communities. Definitely stay tuned for that one!!!
