Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Byrd.
Hi Jeremy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, the Empire Cigar Company began as a hobby of the cigar life which soon and quickly became a passion of the Cigar Industry.
We decided that it was imperative that we bring something different to the city of Dayton in the form of a Black Owned Cigar Company.
Initially, we had sought out help from various people and companies around the world and it wasn’t until we reached out to a company that was based out of Atlanta, Georgia that they told us primarily, “if you work for my company when I feel that you are ready, then I will set you up with everything you need to know about the cigar industry.” I didn’t like that so much, so I decided to respectfully decline and Empire Cigar Company at that point had begun
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. We have experienced so many roadblocks to getting where we are at this point. I would be remiss if I didn’t say that these roadblocks have made us appreciate how far we have come as an independent company.
We have to experience the distrust of people, we have experience unloyal individuals, and we have experienced those things that you only can get better from once you go through them. Nevertheless, with all of those things, we are better today because of them
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, we are definitely most proud of the first line that we’ve put together -The Checkmate Collection. This particular line of cigars is an ode to me for my love of chess. So, each of the cigars will be made to mimic a chess piece. I thought it was important to start my journey of something that I have grown to love with something that I actually love, which is chess. One of my favorite statements is that “people expect checker moves to take place in life’s chess game, which is life.
Now, what sets us apart from others is not only do we listen to our customers and what they like, but we also prepare each cigar that we make with compassion, love, and Royalty. Empire Cigar Company prides itself on specializing in Immaculate Customer Service. If one of our customers walk away unsatisfied then we feel like we have failed for that day.
So it’s my job to ensure that each customer walks away happy, satisfied, and smoking an Empire Cigar with pride.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe that integrity, honesty, hard work, diligence, and perseverance are some of the qualities that are most important to the success of Empire Cigar Company.
