Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaimie Gates.
Hi Jaimie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to the beauty industry, not just for the artistry but for the way it transforms how people feel about themselves. After working behind the chair for others, I knew I wanted to create something of my own; a modern, elevated salon space where clients felt truly seen and cared for. In 2021, I opened my own studio in Solon, Ohio, and have since specialized in premium color, keratin bond extensions, and smoothing treatments, backed by advanced training and certifications including Great Lengths.
My personal hair journey has been just as important as my professional one. I buzzed my head in 2024 and shared the process of growing it out with my clients, which gave me a new perspective on patience, self-image, and healthy hair. Today, my studio isn’t just about beautiful transformations — it’s about empowering people with confidence. Looking ahead, I’m excited to expand my business, continue my education, and build my own extension brand, while helping clients feel their very best.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When I first started my business, I had to figure out everything on my own. From marketing and scheduling to creating a brand that really represented me. Growing a clientele takes time, and there were moments where I questioned if I was doing enough or standing out in such a competitive industry.
But those challenges pushed me to level up. They’re what made me dive deeper into advanced education, focus on extensions and color, and really carve out my own lane. Looking back, every struggle ended up being a lesson that shaped the business I have today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a stylist and salon studio owner in Solon, and I specialize in color and keratin bond extensions. Extensions are really my thing — I’m certified in multiple methods, but I love working with Great Lengths and creating blends that look effortless and natural. I’m known for being detail-oriented, creative, and a little obsessive (in a good way) about making sure every client leaves with hair that feels like theirs, not something obviously added on.
What sets me apart is how personal I make it. I don’t just apply extensions or color — I customize everything down to the placement, the tones, and how it’s going to grow out. My clients trust me because I’m not just focused on the end result; I’m focused on their whole hair journey. What I’m most proud of is when a client looks in the mirror and finally sees the version of themselves they’ve always wanted. That’s the magic for me.
How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t just about numbers or being “booked out.” It’s about impact. If my clients leave my chair feeling more confident, more like themselves, and excited about their hair, that’s success. It’s in the little moments — when someone tears up seeing their extensions for the first time, or tells me they finally feel pretty again.
On a bigger scale, success is also about growth; continuing to learn, push myself creatively, and build a business that reflects who I am. I don’t ever want to feel like I’ve “arrived.” To me, success is being proud of the work I’m doing right now, while still chasing what’s next.
