Rising Stars: Meet Harmony Haze

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harmony Haze.

Hi Harmony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Whew! That’s always a loaded question, huh? Well, I can start by saying that I have been performing on stage for as long as I can remember. It started around five years old when I joined a competitive dance team. We would travel from state to state doing all types of routines from jazz and hip-hop, to lyrical and “pom”. This is where my love of performance began. I danced with that team for about ten years before retiring to pursue my passion for music. I loved to dance, but I also loved to sing and wanted to be a double threat. Just like Beyonce… Oh, come on you don’t think I grew up in the early 2000s and didn’t want to be Beyonce? I started taking singing lessons in high school, and eventually gained the confidence to audition for the school musical. I mean singing, dancing, AND acting in one spectacle? Pretty sweet gig, right? TRIPLE threat! I was cast in the spring musical that year which was “Hairspray”. This experience changed my life and I fell absolutely head-over-heels in love with theater. I dove into the world hard, researching and listening to as many musical scorings possible. It really exposed me to a whole new atmosphere of music, changing the way I interpreted my own musical instrument. So, it was decided. I loved musical theater and I was going to go to college, get my degree, and perform on stages across the globe. I went on to obtain my Bachelor of Fine Arts and graduated university in 2019. Since then, I have performed at several venues across the country and have started my own business teaching vocal and piano lessons. Due to the pandemic, I had a lot of time at home which led to a spark of creation. I tapped into the world of digital music production and began making my own musical tracks. Eventually, I started writing lyrics to these tracks and before I knew it, I was building a portfolio of original music. Now, I create music full-time. It’s such a rewarding experience to be able to take all that I have learned through the years as a performer and put it all into my own persona. I’ve loved telling the stories that were written by others, and now it’s time to tell my own stories.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely. Being a performer is a totally vulnerable endeavor, and I have had a lot of personal obstacles to overcome. Both mental and physical. Early on in my career, I developed a cyst on one of my right vocal cords. After years of continued vocal use, another cyst formed on my left one. This condition causes my voice to tire very quickly and subjects me to a lot of unpredictability. It can be very frustrating and often takes a huge toll on my confidence. But if anything, this has taught me how to properly take care of my voice. I’ve gotten very acquainted with my instrument, and now know what it will take to have a healthy and sustainable vocal career.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
An easier question to answer would be what DONT I do! I like to think of myself as an artistic chameleon, able to blend into any setting. Let’s just say I am a musical theater actress turned singer/songwriter and music producer. But I love merging the elements of both, I think that is what makes my music unique. People always ask what artist I would compare myself to, and I genuinely grasp at straws. I believe I am something different than anyone else. A new breed, if you will. I strive to push the boundary of what music should sound like. I bring in elements that make you question if you enjoy what you’re hearing. ‘Harmony’ is a completely raw and rare spectacle; in whatever form, she appears.
