Today we’d like to introduce you to Calian Prime.
Hi Calian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Wow. What a question. I don’t quite remember the age, but I was too young to understand music when I first fell in love with it. I was very young. It’s actually not even something I can recall because it really is just a part of my being. I don’t think I understand life without music. MADNESS! Haha. I do remember when I wanted to be an artist though. Michael Joseph Jackson. That’s all. I saw a recording of a concert, and that was it. I wanted that. The command, the music, the presence, the fame, the connection, and the passion. I wanted it all. I have never looked back. I didn’t get to make music as a kid, but as soon as I graduated high school, I was writing and performing songs in college. I went for one year and dropped out. I came home and told my parents, respectively, that I was not going back, I’d do community college, but I was focusing on music. I’ve only been Cali Prime for a year. It’s crazy to say out loud. Now here we are, talking to one another because you all care who I am a year later. Insane! I could’ve never made it to this point without my wonderful team. Kaleah has been my manager for about a year as well. My DJ and producer a little less than but within the same time frame. It has truly been an amazing beginning of a journey and I’m sure it will make for a phenomenal documentary someday.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth sailing. I love this life. I chose it and it chose me. Nothing stands out. Everything is pretty standard, to be honest. The hardest thing has been convenience of access to a studio, but it hasn’t mattered. One day, I won’t be able to stay out of one. I’m grateful for everyone who has helped me along the way in that regard because they understand my situation. This gives me life though. I would never complain.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist. I create art in the form of musical vocals and composition. I create cover art. I come up with album concepts and video ideas. I’m a creative. No box can define me, although I know you’re just doing your jobs. I am a human being. I specialize in communication and connection. I care about people. I guess those are kind of some things I’m known for as well. Musically, however, I’m known for innovation. I make music people have never heard before. Leaves people speechless or with not enough words. I love to push the boundaries of what it means to create art. I’m most proud of my people, and myself. Takes a lot to do this and put up with a person who is full throttle in it. I’m a pioneer. That’s what sets me apart in my eyes.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Bananas are technically berries? I found out because I did research. I’m allergic to berries and bananas but not strawberries. Well, apparently bananas are berries and strawberries, raspberries and blackberries actually. aren’t? I know for a fact I’m highly allergic to bananas and blueberries. I just kind of clumped them all together. Trippy.
