Rising Stars: Meet Antonette Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonette Parker.

Hi Antonette, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business in the summer of 2020. We were in the middle of the pandemic, and I was thinking about my life and how far I came. When I was growing up, I always got bullied for not having the best clothes and shoes and also being fat. So, as I became an adult and was able to take care of myself of course, I was able to buy what I wanted. It felt great to hear people say where did you get that from or you look so cute. And if you know with being plus size it’s always harder to find things to wear without someone having something negative to say. And here came the great idea to start a clothing business for plus-size women.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has been a roller coaster! Of course, starting out with funding from your own pockets to get inventory is always a lot. Some people are able to have funding through grants and loans but it isn’t promised that you will actually get them and of course, with loans you have to pay them back.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
To be completely honest, I feel as if I’m an artist. The reason I say this is because my fiancé’s sister always tells me I wish I had as much confidence as you do to be able to wear what you wear. For some people, they lose themselves after a breakup or having children, so they want to feel pretty, and I’m proud to say that my outfits make people feel pretty.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
One other person that I would say they deserve credit would have to be my sister’s best friend’s mom. She actually passed away some years ago. But every time she would see me or talk to my sister, she would always say where is Beauty or how are you, Beauty and that made me feel so great about myself because after being bullied for so long you get sidetracked. So, she helped me name my boutique Beautys Desire Boutique.
