Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Thomas.
Hi Tasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my love with yarn by learning how to crochet. I wanted to make blankets for my parents for Christmas and a good friend of mine who rode the bus with me daily taught me the techniques.
After getting hooked on that I decided to try my hand selling my items at local craft shows. Along the way I found myself dabbling in yarn dyeing. At my last show I had very few crochet items so I took the yarn I had dyed to sell as well.
The response to dyed yarn was amazing, ing and I sold out of all that I had brought with me.
At that point I knew this was the path I was to take.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been fortunate when it comes to struggles as there have been some but nothing that I haven’t worked through. The biggest struggle has been finding the time to work towards creating and advancing my business while working a full time demanding and tiring job.
However I recently found a new job that offers more stability which has lifted a huge burden.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create custom hand dyed yarn. Each yarn colorway that I create takes inspiration from my travels, childhood memories and mother nature.
I’m most proud how much I have achieved in the short period of time I have been in business. From appearing on a local news segment, to having the opportunity to be part of a year long indie dyer program. And so many other experiences have made this a dream come true.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
That is a tough question. I think we will see more yarn dyers sourcing more local fibers from farms within their area. More farm to yarn if you will, consumers like knowing where their items come from and how they are sourced.
