Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Crawford.
Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am physical therapist of over 10 years and built a specialty practice around chronic and persistent pain. I am also an entrepreneur at heart and from an early start had a desire to build something new. Unfortunately, doing things differently would have also meant isolating myself, thus the Anchor Wellness Center was born. The Anchor Wellness Center was founded to provide a trusted network of like-minded professionals so that consumers of health and wellness services can cut the red tape and easily access care. Additionally, the center serves as a collaborative for client-centric health and wellness entrepreneurs to have support from others in the industry and simplify business practices.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not! The development of this business is not linear. There are moments of forward progress as well as roadblocks. The current pandemic is not the easiest environment to be building a health and wellness practice. The initial struggle was finding the brick-and-mortar space that would allow for the model to be executed. Then there were the pandemic and public health mandates that were necessary but difficult to tolerate at times. Managing the different providers and growing a space with like-minded people has also been more difficult than expected. There are plenty of practitioners that practice similarly but finding the ones that are complementary to one another as well as collaborative is more difficult than I expected.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Anchor Wellness Center?
The Anchor Wellness Center in an integrated health and wellness collaborative bringing like-minded health and wellness providers into the same space to provide client-centric, highly specialized care to individuals.
We have providers across the continuum of care from physical therapy, nutritional therapy, health coaching, massage therapy, strength training, pilates rehab, and yoga therapy. What sets us apart from other practices is that we are all out-of-network with insurance companies therefore able to practice exactly as we believe the clients’ needs. There is no cookie-cutter program or universal program. We believe our clients know their bodies and their goals better than anyone and our job is to sit next to them in the passenger seat and guide them there. We want to empower our clients to be well. Healthcare is usually reactive in nature and we want to get ahead of injuries or illness.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Starting a business is about calculated risks. I’d say having a clear path towards success is key, knowing the metrics that you have to accomplish to break even however knowing that there will be times that you get off course. Having a plan and concrete goals helps to refocus and reduce fear and anxiety associated with launching a business.
