Meet Meredith Piccin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Piccin.

Hi Meredith, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I began my career in corporate America as a visual merchandiser and later as a wardrobe stylist and entrepreneur. After meeting my husband and starting a family, I discovered my love for creating jewelry while playing with my Grandmother Honey Rosenkranz’s vintage pieces. I began to see that breathing new life into old pieces was a better way for the environment and the fashion industry. When friends and family began requesting pieces of their own, I knew that I could bring Honey Rose & K to life. In 2009, the eco-friendly line Honey Rose & K was born. Today I still enjoy creating pieces from vintage materials and we’ve added in some modern staples so that women can layer the vintage and modern together. I wholesale all across the US to small boutiques, and we still offer pop-up parties around Ohio. My team consists of two other Columbus women, Jenny Dingle and Lauren Cicala. We love the flexibility of small business because we are all mothers!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, of course not! You have to have a ton of grit to endure owning a small business. Most of my struggles are wearing every hat in the business. When you start from scratch, you don’t have a ton of money to hire and delegate every aspect of what you need. You spend so much time doing the business side of things, and you can suffer burnout easily and lose track of your goals. I try and step back and take time for myself when I’m feeling overwhelmed or sometimes underwhelmed! Covid was also a bit of a struggle. We could no longer sell in person when everyone feared the virus. At first, our sales soared because everyone was at home and wanted to shop small businesses online. That support felt amazing! As time went on, people stopped shopping though and felt they had nowhere to wear fun jewelry. We were all home. We had to get creative and partner, partner, partner to survive, always align yourself with other amazing women so you can all shine and grow together. Everyone will benefit, and even if you have to connect virtually, human connection is still where it’s at

Learning to ride the highs and lows of a small business is bumpy, but every lesson is a learning/growing experience.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Honey Rose & K combines repurposed vintage finds with modern elements and design to create unique, hand-made jewelry. We believe in re-using pieces that already exist, are previously loved, and have a modern, bohemian flare. In doing so, we make each piece fashion-forward and edgy but also sustainable. 80% of the line is vintage, 100% of the line is handmade. No Waste Production. Honey Rose & K has been in the pages of Oprah, People Stylewatch, InStyle, Elle, and many more! We are proud to be Eco-friendly designers and hope to leave our sustainable mark along the way. When you shop Honey Rose & K, you know it’s made by hand.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We hope you’ll continue to love and support small business! We believe great customer service comes from small businesses and designers and that is the heart of what we do. If you have a vintage piece or many that you’d like repurposed, we offer custom designs. Repurposing your own vintage makes for great gifts and stories. We also help brides with their special day.
