Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Papania.
Hi Jim, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Original business was a farm market, started selling VW parts in 1989 in the farm market as a hobby. Eventually the VW parts sales took over and I closed the farm market in 1999 and stayed with the VW parts sales. We added VW air cooled service and engine building, transmission rebuilding, and host three shows per year. We currently have 3000 members on our mailing list from all over the United States. We ship parts daily anywhere in the United States.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
After I closed the farm market in 1999, we had a devastating fire that burned down 90% of our business. We operated a limited business during rebuilding process and opened full operation in spring of 2000.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in the old air-cooled VW’s. We provide service, new engine building, rebuilding old engines, rebuilding transmissions, and have a 30 foot by 100 foot showroom full of parts and accessories. We also have a 30 foot by 100 foot service area. We have a complete machine shop in house. We have three major parts suppliers and receive shipments weekly. We have great reviews which helps promote our business.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We have been in business for 36 years in the same location. You can google Jim’s Custom VW’s to view videos and reviews. Jim and his wife Amy operate the company. They are down to earth people operating a small business for air-cooled VW;s. They love spending time with family and camping. Together they have four children and nine grandchildren.
