Meet George Tsaftarides of Canton, Ohio (Belden Village)

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Tsaftarides.

Hi George, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Greece in 1941 during a time of wars. At the age of 14, I because an apprentice for tailoring. Later, at the age of 19, I moved to the USA in pursuit of new opportunities and a better life. After arriving in the states, I worked for in tailoring, expanding my knowledge while holding onto the old-world craftsmanship I learned in Europe. With dedication, skill, and attention to detail, I began to earned a strong reputation within the community. In 1964, I opened my own tailor shop and later began selling men’s clothing in addition to the tailoring. Decades later, that same business continues to thrive and serve the community, still proudly run by my family today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every business has its positive and negative points, but for my business, finding the right location has always been the biggest struggle.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known as a Master European Tailor specializing in men’s better clothing and formal attire. I am most proud of the customer service we provide. My store is ran by myself, my wife Jill and my daughter Daisy. We also have a barbershop located within our store that is ran by my son-in-law George. What sets our store apart is the family atmosphere and large selection of goods within. In addition, we have continued the European style of tailoring and I continue to work full time tailoring and running my business at the age of 84.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be to get to know your customers and establish good relationships. If you are learning how to tailor, have confidence in yourself. It is not an easy skill to master, but if it is in your heart, you will learn.
