Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Wallace.
Hi Austin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’ve always loved art – a vast array of different types. Photography has been the simplest style of art for me to really expound on, especially with the emergence of camera phones. I traveled a lot during my network marketing days and I love capturing scenery and new spaces; landscape, cityscapes, etc. People would complement my shots when I posted them on social media, but one in particular just kept catching my ear. “You have a good eye.” I started processing that statement more, realizing I have a gift and a love for it.
At the time I was focused on developing a solo career path for myself. I felt like I just needed to take this to the next level and quit hesitating. So, I did thorough research until I found a camera I thought suited me and I bought it.
I watched YouTube every day and went out and shot as much as I could. Then I developed an Instagram page, started a couple projects, and in due time, a company in California called ‘Raw Artist’ discovered one of them (via hashtag). I did my first art show and the rest is history. 4 years later.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been smooth. I don’t think many roads are. For me, doing something that many other are doing – it’s hard to gain exposure because of the competitive nature of the craft. People tend to click up or don’t like to share opportunities. So, I had to find my own lane and way to get my name known and my skills noticed. It’s also hard to balance work and a business/hustle. Time can be an issue if mismanaged or I just feel flat out tired.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Family Specialist for Franklin County, OH. I primarily work at the juvenile courts, advocating for families of African American youth that have engaged with the juvenile justice system. I provide wrap-around services to those with barriers. I’d say I’m most know for philanthropic work I’ve done in the community – mainly for youth. I coach football as well and I’ve been a mentor since 2011. I’m most proud of the transformational change I’ve been able to provide for many youth and families. Being able to use my experiences as a platform to influence others to improve their lives is extremely gratification.
What sets me apart is my selfless, driven, empathetic heart. I’m the ultimate team player, yet a natural leader that has been known to inspire others. I am a humble servant who’s always ready to help others. I sincerely want to see good, hard-working people win and never give up.
What do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in universal pull. And I believe in a higher power. I believe the love I’ve given to the world has given it back and honestly, has kept me alive. In business, I’ve been fortunate to meet “the right” people and make some true friends.
