Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Fehribach.
Ashley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been a cat lover and growing up I noticed that there were tons of cute things for dogs but nothing special for cats. In 2014 I decided to put my craft skills to use, and I began experimenting with different fabrics. The first toy I made was my catnip fortune cookie. I donated a bunch of toys to a local shelter, and they were a hit! I have been creating unique toys ever since.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest struggle was the first few years when I had to balance my full-time job and my side business. I had many late nights fulfilling orders and prepping for shows. In 2018, I was able to chase my dream and transition to working solely for Furball Fanatic.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I handmake a unique selection of organic catnip cat toys. I created Furball Fanatic to bring joy to the lives of furballs and those who love them! When you see a cat playing with a pizza slice or donut you have to smile. Every time I receive a customer photo of their cat playing with my toys, it brings me so much joy!
What sets me apart from others is there is not a huge market for unique cat items. I also offer personalization items for toys.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I will always remember going to craft fairs with my mom. We loved to support makers and find some unique items. I still remember being very excited when I saw a table had a basket of handmade cat toys. They were traditional mice, but I found one made from fuzzy yarn in a hot pink. It made me smile and I loved giving my cat, Sparkle, a fancy new toy!
