Life & Work with Jaylaunna Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylaunna Davis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started? 
Decided to get a camera to document my son playing sports. Shortly after, I start volunteering to take photos at events. Caught the attention of a well-known DJ in Cleveland, OH; became his personal photographer. Quickly realizing my passion was football, sport photography piqued my interest. I started networking in the sports world and became an NFL lifestyle photographer. I was hired for Terrell Owen’s personal photographer for his HOF enshrinement and was referred to other NFL legends as time went on. 

Expressed interest in being on The Cleveland Browns Photography team, thanks to a good friend, I was introduced to the Team’s photographer and audition at a High School Showcase at the Browns facility. I have been a part of the photography team now for 2 seasons. Though I’m a freelancer, my priority is developing and staying in the sports realm. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has not been a smooth road whatsoever. The industry is very difficult to break in. Its male-dominated and women of color is finally starting to get their opportunities. Many times, I’m the only one that looks like me in media rooms. Rather, I’m the only woman or the only person of color.
