Inspiring Conversations with Sophia Sparks of Prodos Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Sparks.

Hi Sophia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved interacting with people of all ages, so I knew from a young age I would go into a field that allowed me to engage with people. I received my bachelor’s degree in Social Work and then went on to obtain my Masters in Clinical Counseling in 1993. I am a licensed Social Worker and a Licensed Professional Counselor. I became a therapist and worked in a variety of settings such as Outpatient Mental Health, School Settings, Emergency Rooms, Residential Treatment Facilities, and lastly, I decided to open up a private practice. I also became certified as a life coach to work with people who do not necessarily have mental health issues but who want to set goals and make positive changes in their life. In addition, I pursued becoming a certified Neurofeedback Brain Trainer and offer that to my clients as well. I love engaging with people on a deep level and being able to share in their joys and sorrows. I feel very blessed to be able to do something that I love so much.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think any time we challenge ourselves to grow and take the next step there are always challenges along the way. Starting a practice takes time to build but overall, the struggles have been minimal.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Prodos Counseling, LLC?
I think what sets me apart from others is my holistic approach. Helping clients navigate what works best for them and offering various resources for them to be able to choose what is the best fit. For example, Neurofeedback is a game-changer for many clients as it is a safe noninvasive way to train your brain to be more flexible, more resilient. It is like taking your brain to the gym! It can help with managing stress, anxiety, focus, and clarity, etc. My certification in life coaching is also helpful. Many clients are super focused and goal-oriented. They want to make changes in a safe place where they can be challenged while sharing their thoughts, and ideas. Life Coaching is a great way to work towards those goals. I also provide Marriage and Relationship counseling and really enjoy seeing couples improve communication, and create a greater connection with one another. Being bilingual has also helped me understand cultural sensitivity, diversity, improved my insight and understanding of the blessings and challenges that go along with being raised in two cultures. Christian Counseling is also offered to clients who want to approach things from a Biblical perspective. I am available to local clients for in-office sessions as well as telehealth for all Ohio clients.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I have a variety of books that I recommend to clients depending on what they are dealing with. I also provide homework and exercises for clients. to help them on their growth journey. When I set goals with clients, we discuss what they like best books, podcasts, youtube, homework, etc. and we go from there. These supplemental resources are very helpful. All of these tools can help us grow.
