Inspiring Conversations with Mary Wiegand of Boon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Wiegand.

Hi Mary, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been in the corporate retail industry since 2007. I started my career at Target in downtown Minneapolis and then moved to New York City where I worked for Tiffany & Co and Victoria’s Secret. After establishing a solid retail foundation through those brands, I took the leap to start-up retail and joined Chloe + Isabel jewelry brand. In that role, I was able to expand my experience beyond the large corporations and utilize my skills to support a new and emerging brand without established plans and processes. During my time at Chloe + Isabel, I moved from New York City to Columbus but continued to work my same full-time role. After giving birth to my second child, I decided it was time to make the big leap out of full-time and find something that would allow for better balance. So, in 2017 I started Boon LLC, a hands-on merchandise planning consultant agency. Over the past 5 years, I have navigated a journey of entrepreneurship along with a pandemic, the birth of twins, and a difficult divorce. Now as a single mom to four I am extremely proud of what I have built and know that my journey hasn’t been easy but I am focused on doing my best every day for my business, my kids, and myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. If anyone who is an entrepreneur or a parent knows that there are always struggles. On a weekly basis, I have to be ready for whatever comes my way. Of course, the initial struggles were to get the business running, building a reputation, and set a path for how Boon would be successful in the retail industry. I have had to ebb and flow with the client needs as well as my team needs.

And on a personal side, the struggles feel even more real than the business struggles. I endured a high-risk twins pregnancy alone. I never had a single person with me at any appointment or at their birth which was just weeks after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Then when the babies were merely a few weeks old I had to make the difficult decision to leave the bad marriage.

I then had to struggle to find my way with four children under 6 and push the business harder than I ever had before.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Boon LLC?
