Hi Lynnesha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a shared dream to a vibrant reality, 50Fifty Comix Publishing is a testament to the power of passion and collaboration. Founded by two brothers with a vision, this dynamic company welcomed me in 2020 to help bring their dream to life. As a single mother, I wanted to show my sons that with dedication and joy, anything is achievable. And we’ve done just that! With 12 published comics and 13 incredible creative collaborators, we’re forging a new path in the world of comics and graphic novels, pioneering the next generation of storytelling. But our mission goes beyond just publishing. 50Fifty Comix proudly partners with extraordinary non-profits across Ohio and Texas, organizations that share our belief in the power of inspirational reading. Together, we’re igniting the imaginations of young people, inspiring them to explore their creative potential and perhaps even become the authors and illustrators of tomorrow.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a company, even with the brightest entrepreneurial minds, is a journey filled with both triumphs and trials. Managing a growing team, keeping everyone aligned on deadlines, and consistently hitting goals presents unique challenges. We’ve certainly experienced our share of growing pains, but the final product, the culmination of everyone’s hard work, always makes it worthwhile. As Chief Operations Officer in this startup, I wear many hats – from Human Resources, handling hiring and firing, to payroll, event coordination, and even navigating legal matters. The three partners come from vastly different backgrounds. Still, we’ve learned to find our balance, building strategically and providing the necessary drive to ensure our artists and writers have every opportunity to share their voices and visions with the world.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about 50 Fifty Comix Publishing LLC?
I thrive in the business world, but my background as an artist and creative gives me a unique perspective. “If you can’t beat them, join them” is my motto, and that’s exactly what I did! My team is an incredible mix of talent; ranging in age from 21 to 48. Together, we’re bringing a dynamic twist to the comics scene, drawing inspiration from the original masters. While we prioritize art, we also understand the crucial business acumen needed for success. This is my domain. While my partners focus on the creative process and enjoy the journey, I ensure the company stays on track, even when difficult conversations are necessary. We’ve effectively divided our daily responsibilities, and for that, I’m truly grateful. After all, nothing worthwhile is ever a one-person show.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Over the years, I’ve learned that two qualities are absolutely essential: patience and a Plan B. Things rarely go exactly as planned right from the start. But if you approach each situation like a puzzle, carefully figuring out where all the edges fit, you can complete it one piece, one plan, at a time. I believe the characteristics that truly make a company successful are grace, positive feedback, patience, and a focus on teaching rather than lecturing.
