Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Castro.
Hi Joanne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story started over 20 years ago when I opted out of the traditional college path to follow my gut, and I’ve been in the field of massage therapy and bodywork ever since. I’ve worked in a wide range of settings, each teaching me something new, which has essentially created the foundation of how I operate today. The foundation that guides me is grounded in therapeutic touch. I believe that when touch is skilled, intentional and compassionate, it creates safety and it’s in that space healing begins. It is my mission to offer that to all my clients, for them to feel safe, seen and heard.
My journey eventually led me to lymphatic therapy, which opened an entirely new world of possibility within bodywork. I felt called to go deeper, to serve people who were navigating complex health journeys. That’s when I knew it was time to branch out on my own and create InnerFlow.
As a bodyworker, I understand the importance of receiving bodywork myself. I know firsthand what it’s like to drop into a place of profound rest and inner quiet, where the body can let go. This place is truly transformational. If you have never fallen into that state of rest, I encourage you to do so! That is the experience I strive to offer my clients. Every session is different, of course, but when someone reaches that level of deep release, it feels like such a gift for them, and for me. This has shaped my goal and how I operate today. I bridge the clinical with the holistic, offering skilled therapy and deep reset.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like many in the healing arts, much of my growth came from navigating uncertainty, learning to trust myself, and finding clarity during times of transition.
For many years, I worked within other people’s businesses. Those experiences were valuable, but they also came with limits, especially when it came to how much time I could spend with each client. I often felt rushed, or like I had to fit people into a system that didn’t reflect the kind of care I wanted to provide. I felt boxed in.
At the same time, I was raising my children, and there were times when my focus needed to be at home. Balancing motherhood while continuing to grow personally and professionally has been one of my greatest challenges, and one of my greatest teachers. It taught me patience, flexibility, and how to prioritize what matters most, which is building my business in a rhythm that allows me to be present for my children while also serving my clients.
On that note, I’m grateful to have a deeply supportive spouse who understands my love of learning and passion for this work. His encouragement has allowed me to continue pursuing advanced education, as well as expanding my vision of InnerFlow.
Another ongoing challenge has been raising awareness about the importance of lymphatic and nervous-system work. These systems are subtle, and many people don’t realize how much they influence overall wellbeing. Educating clients has become a natural and important part of what I do.
Like many small business owners, balancing work, continued growth, and home life is always a dance. I’m constantly learning how to care for others without losing sight of my own wellbeing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
InnerFlow Lymphatics is a calming, therapeutic space where I support people through gentle bodywork focused on the lymphatic and nervous systems. I specialize in manual lymphatic drainage and often blend it with craniosacral therapy to help the body relax, clear stagnation, and heal.
I work with a wide range of clients from those seeking general wellness, detox support, or hormonal balance to individuals on more complex journeys, such as post-surgical recovery, lipedema, chronic inflammation, cancer-related lymphedema, or persistent symptoms that haven’t found answers elsewhere. I especially love supporting people who feel overlooked or misunderstood in more traditional healthcare settings.
I take time to listen to each person’s story and respond to what their body needs that day. A session may include manual lymphatic drainage, craniosacral holds, scar tissue release, gentle abdominal work, or energetic balancing.
What sets InnerFlow apart is the combination of clinical skill and an understanding of the mind body spirit connection. On one hand, I’ve spent time working in a lymphedema clinic as a PTA which gave me respect and understanding for the clinical side of this work. This allows me to work safely with those who have compromised lymphatic systems. While on the other hand, I also recognize the importance of a holistic mindset and offer safe supportive touch to help clients who are looking for general wellness go deeper into their own healing.
A signature service I offer is the Cranio-Lymphatic Bodywork session, I find the combination of lymphatic and craniosacral to be deeply restorative, allowing people to drop into a deep state of rest and digest. When that happens, clients tell me that they’ve never experienced anything like it!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice for anyone just starting out in this field is to keep learning. There are so many avenues within bodywork, and the more you educate yourself, the more confident and effective you’ll become. Follow the areas that genuinely interest you, that curiosity will guide you toward the work you’re meant to do.
Just as important is learning to be fully present. Techniques matter, but presence is what allows clients to feel safe enough to relax and receive. When you’re grounded, listening, and attuned to the person in front of you, the work naturally becomes more meaningful. People don’t just remember what you did, they remember how you made them feel.
