Inspiring Conversations with Chelsea Zainea of Peak Financial Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Zainea.

Hi Chelsea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After watching my parents struggle with money as a kid, I really wanted a career where I could help people succeed with money. I decided to become a CPA and got my degree from Bowling Green State University here in Ohio. Shortly after graduating, I moved to Texas where I got my MBA and CPA. I started my career working for a public accounting firm. After spending several years doing governmental auditing, I decided that I wasn’t helping people with money in the way that I had intended. I moved to a corporate job, which I enjoyed for many years, but still wasn’t feeling like I was helping people in the way that I wanted to. After moving back to Ohio, I decided to start my own accounting firm offering virtual bookkeeping and CFO services. I’m able to take my corporate experience and really help small business owners take care of their finances and grow their businesses, which is extremely rewarding.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business from scratch takes a lot of work! I had recently moved to Central Ohio from Texas and didn’t know a lot of people. I’ve had to spend a lot of time networking and getting to know people to get my name out there. Additionally, becoming an entrepreneur after years of working for someone else has its own challenges. It’s a different way of thinking and takes discipline, creativity, and lots of problem-solving!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I started this business because I wanted to help people. Most bookkeeping firms issue small business owners a report at the end of the month and that’s the end of the story.

Small business owners need more than that. They want to know what’s possible with their money. They want to know if they can hire another employee. They want to know if they can expand their business. They want to know if they can pay themselves a bonus and take their family on vacation. They want a plan.

They need someone to take care of the numbers, explain them, and show them what’s possible. They need a CFO.

That’s where Peak Financial Wellness comes in. I do provide a traditional monthly report, but I also provide a goal tracker and monthly cash overview each month. We review their business finances together over a Zoom meeting. They leave the meeting feeling confident in their numbers and knowing exactly what they’re working for.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband, family, and friends have all been extremely supportive and helpful throughout this process. I started my business while still working full-time in corporate. I have two children and it really takes a village to keep everything going at once! I also recently joined a business mastermind and am looking forward to continuing to scale my business with the help and support of a business coach and other masterminders.
