Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlton Seward.
Hi Carlton, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my career in the countertop industry as an installer, where I gained hands-on experience with fabrication, delivery, and installation standards. While working in customers’ homes, I began noticing a common gap in the industry—many homeowners had issues with their existing countertops such as chips, seam problems, sink modifications, dull surfaces, or damage that didn’t require full replacement, but they didn’t know who to call.
As I grew within the company and took on greater responsibilities, I became more interested in the service side of the industry. I started doing side work focused specifically on countertop repair, restoration, and on-site fabrication. That experience opened my eyes to how valuable those services were, both for homeowners trying to protect their investment and for contractors needing solutions after installation.
In 2023, I decided to pursue my own business full time. It gave me the opportunity to build something of my own while also creating more flexibility and time with my wife and newborn daughter. Since then, I’ve continued serving homeowners throughout Ohio, helping them save money, extend the life of their countertops, and bring worn or damaged surfaces back to life.
What I enjoy most is combining technical skill with problem-solving and customer service. Every job is different, and it’s rewarding to provide solutions that many people don’t realize are possible without full replacement.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenges I encountered when going out on my own were the normal realities of building a business from the ground up. I had to rely heavily on myself for everything—operations, scheduling, customer communication, estimating, marketing, and completing the actual work. It taught me discipline, accountability, and how to manage multiple responsibilities at once.
Another challenge was building the right tool and material inventory. In this industry, having the proper equipment and products directly impacts the quality of the results, so I had to be strategic about reinvesting into tools, specialty materials, and systems that would allow me to grow and serve customers at a higher level.
The other major hurdle was creating a steady and reliable client base. In the beginning, every lead mattered, and I had to learn how to market myself, build trust, earn reviews, and create repeat and referral business. Over time, those challenges became strengths because they forced me to become more resourceful, customer-focused, and business-minded.
Looking back, those early struggles gave me a much stronger understanding of both the trade itself and what it takes to consistently deliver value to customers.
We’ve been impressed with Rock Solid Creations LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Rock Solid Creations LLC is a specialized countertop service company focused on repair, restoration, and on-site modifications for homeowners throughout Ohio. We help clients solve countertop problems without the cost and disruption of full replacement whenever possible. Our services include chip and crack repair, seam corrections, sink and cooktop modifications, polishing, refinishing, hole drilling, custom adjustments, and restoring worn or damaged surfaces back to a clean, functional, attractive condition.
What makes our business different is that we operate in a niche many people do not realize exists. When homeowners experience countertop damage or need a modification, they often assume replacement is their only option. We are known for providing practical alternatives that save clients money while extending the life of one of the most valuable surfaces in their home.
We specialize in combining hands-on field experience with creative problem solving. Many jobs require technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to think through challenges on-site. Every project is different, and we take pride in finding solutions others may overlook.
What sets us apart most is our customer-first mindset. We understand that we are working inside someone’s home and around one of their biggest investments, so professionalism, communication, honesty, and respect matter just as much as craftsmanship. We aim to educate clients, explain options clearly, and deliver results they can feel confident about.
From a brand standpoint, I am most proud that Rock Solid Creations represents trust, resourcefulness, and value. We built the company on the belief that quality service and genuine care still matter. We are proud to be an Ohio-based business serving communities across the state.
What I want readers to know is simple: if your countertop has damage, needs updating, or requires a modification, replacement may not be your only choice. Our brand stands for helping homeowners restore, improve, and protect what they already have.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone just starting out is to focus on consistency before perfection. A lot of people wait until everything is ideal—the perfect tools, perfect website, perfect plan—but growth usually comes from starting with what you have and improving as you go. Take the job, learn the lesson, refine the process, and keep moving forward.
I’d also recommend learning both the craft and the business side at the same time. Many talented people know the work itself, but pricing, communication, scheduling, marketing, and customer service are what create long-term stability. Skill may get you hired once, but professionalism is what gets referrals and repeat business.
Another important lesson is to reinvest early and wisely. Good tools, quality materials, and systems that make your work more efficient can save you time, improve results, and build your reputation faster than cutting corners ever will.
Something I wish I knew sooner is that progress often looks slower than it feels in the beginning. It is easy to compare yourself to established businesses, but every company has a starting point. Momentum builds through steady effort, not overnight success.
I would also tell new business owners not to underestimate relationships. Treat people well, communicate clearly, and stand behind your work. In industries built on trust, reputation can become one of your most valuable assets.
Most importantly, believe in your ability to grow into the role. You do not need to know everything on day one. Stay humble enough to keep learning, disciplined enough to keep showing up, and patient enough to let the process work.
