Today we’d like to introduce you to Tea’nna Clark.
Hi Tea’nna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, it all started when I was about four years of age. I remember it vividly, I asked my nana if can I get a dollar to go to the store and she said “yes, but I’d like for you to try braiding” so I watched her do it a few times and I kept practicing in my dolls head until I got it! After that, I was doing all of my cousins, uncles, and neighborhood friends’ hair. Went to college to be a surgical technician and had to withdraw due to me doing hair in the dorm rooms or going to class late due to me doing the college kids’ hair! I am where I am today because of overcoming my fears praying to God and having faith. I was offered the opportunity to move 12 hours away and continue to pursue my cosmetology career and I am currently now at the end of my third semester!!!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This road has been one of the toughest but also made me the most confident and strongest. I can remember just three years ago I was crying because I was denied into hair school, two years ago the same thing, denied from hair school, lost my job due to Covid and wasn’t able to take in any clients at all. I even paid a few Hairs Instagram pages to promote my business and they stole my money and blocked me! Everything that was happening to me at that time sent me into a deep depression and made me feel like I’d never be able to pursue my dreams. Moving from my hometown Buffalo NY to Chattanooga TN was one of the best sacrifices I’ve ever made.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is a soon go be self-mastered beauty business. “Tea ‘Styles” was created three years ago. It is a self-reflection of who I am. I specialize in a variety of hairstyles working with all types of hair textures and all types of people which I love the most! I am known for my fabulous work! I don’t think I’m better than anymore but I do know I am great at what I do and I will be a master hairstylist one day. What sets me apart from others is that I sacrificed my old life to pursue a new one. I’ve grown so much as a person and stylist and it’s all because of me pushing myself to do what I love and that’s making people feel beautiful on the inside and out.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I can honestly say I love the warm weather and scenery of the mountains. The food is pretty good too. I don’t like that it rains so much and it’s hard to find anything to do outside of hiking and finishing lol!!!
