Exploring Life & Business with Polly McCormick of Georgie Emerson Vintage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Polly McCormick.

Hi Polly, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After having worked in corporate America and then caring for my aging parents, I took a leap of faith and followed my lifelong dream of opening a shop. With my husband by my side, we signed a lease on a 484-square-foot storefront in our quaint little town. That was in 2012 and since then, we’ve grown to our current location with about 5,000 square feet! We have been in four locations in the last ten years.

We are getting ready to celebrate our ten-year anniversary in September and we’re excited to have a celebration including a mini market in our parking lot, live music, food, and our Fall reveal!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lots of ups and downs and hiccups along the way! We dove right in and have learned a lot. Owning your own business is way more than a normal full-time job. You don’t realize just how much you’ll work until you’re in it. Even when I’m not working, I’m thinking about working. Rent increases, staffing shortages, and Covid have all posed some serious tough times!

We’ve been impressed with Georgie Emerson Vintage, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Georgie Emerson is a lifestyle boutique specializing in a neutral aesthetic offering home goods and clothing. We have 17 Makers who do everything from woodworking to sewing to watercolor and acrylic paintings.

Soft music overhead, a hint of France, vintage touches mixed throughout. A place to wander and wonder. Forget about the troubles…leave those at the door and come explore.

We offer everything you need for a finely appointed home, for entertaining your guests, and even the outfit you’ll need to host your soiree.

We pride ourselves in a well-curated mix of goods that reflect my style which I have grown to describe as light and airy, cozy, and relaxing. A contented sigh.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My parents who encouraged my creative side and expected me to “always do my best”.

My husband who picked me up off the ground after having lost them both and supported my dream.

The Makers who consistently provide quality unique handmade goods that match our aesthetic.

My friends who are supportive, generous, creative, and amazing sounding boards!
