Today we’d like to introduce you to Davia Allen.
Hi Davia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been an entrepreneur/ managing Cosmetologist for 28 years. I’ve always had a passion for fashion as well, Hair, makeup, and fashion goes hand and hand. Growing up My family would take shopping trips to big cities etc it was something that we look forward to during the summer months. In 2013 my middle sister passed away unexpectedly; she also had a unique eye for fashion. She was an influencer, plus empowered young women within our community. Me being the youngest I would always style everyone’s hair, clothes, and do their make-up. So, I took what I enjoyed doing and I came up with Vidia’s Closet boutique in honor of my sister. 2018 I started selling pieces out of my salon to gain that customer base, At the beginning of 2019, I launched my website, gained more customers-built relationships with vendors outside of the city in different states. I was doing well. September 12, 2020, is when I took a leap of faith and opened up my first brick and motor during the pandemic. A lot of people thought I was crazy, but I trusted God, myself, and my brand! That leap of faith has carried us and continues to carry us. Our Brick and motor, plus our online sells are doing well. So, well that we’re looking to open up our second location coming soon. Boutique address, 27 S. Saint Clair St. Dayton, Ohio 45402 website info, www.vidiascloset.com
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a business, you always face some bumps in the road. It’s just about how you navigate through them. I would say the only challenge that we came across during the pandemic, was supply and demand. We would sale our pieces and then have to wait for more inventory to come in, but building and having a great relationship with your vendors is important they would always make sure we were first on the list when product came in.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
God-fearing wife, mother of 3, managing Cosmetologist of 28 years. Salon owner, boutique owner. I specialize in empowering and motivating women. My mission has always been to not just make them look or feel good on the outside, but the inside as well. I’m known for being a bold influencer with a unique sense of fashion. Of course, I’m most proud of my kids, but I’m most proud of who I’ve become, I beat the odds! I was once a teen mom who was looked down on and some Counted me out but with a praying family look at me now. I’m a successful businesswoman on the rise! What sets me apart from others is me just being my unique, authentic self. Bold that is lol. A trait that I most definitely inherited from my mom. So, I took all of that and this is our mission at Vidia’s Closet “we empower women through fashion by offering unique authentic pieces that not only make them look good but feel good”
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Well coming from a family full of strong, educated women. That has helped with both the quality and characteristics of my success. Number one key is to Always remember to put God first and all that you do, Confidence is a biggie, always be confident in what you do! My 100-year-old granny before she passed would always say. If you’re told no try again. Those no’s make you stronger and that strength will prepare you for your yes. I was always taught to dream big; my mom was a very strong woman so failure has never been an option for us. She was bold and God fearing so she went after whatever she wanted. So, seeing that and modeling that, has helped me with my success.
